Philips didn't mount the LDR component, that allows an automatic backlighting according to surrounding brightness, in RU 890. I added it : it 's recognized by the software (in setup pg 2, the light sensor really works), but the problem is that the firmware is provided to work without the LDR ; so the light sensor scale is locked to the middle of the range to allow the manual setting (in setup mode). Does someone already tempted the adventure and have a solution to recover a full range setting possibility ?? Thanks by advance.

Marc,
Did you try an old version of the firmware still available from the ProntoEdit site (don't forget to backup your ccf file before performing the update)?
Also, where did you get your LDR component?
Thanks.

I have an old Pronto TS1000 that came with a light sensor, and even with the new firmware it works. But if you want to try older firmwares you can find all of them here [Link: remotecentral.com]

Does that mean that it is not software but harware dependent?

It could just be some kind of model number, the same way that the edit software knows your remote is a Pronto or RC5000
