Sony DVD-530D discrete code quirk

I have macro that does the following:

1. Turn on DVD Player (discrete code)
2. Turn on Receiver, set it to DVD
3. Turn on TV, set is to Video 5(discrete code)
4. Switch to custom DVD menu on Pronto remote

Has anyone else seen this, it seems random:

Sometimes when I hit the button to do the above macro, everything turns on and switches to the correct mode(s), but then the DVD player will occasionally turn itself off. I can run the macro again, and it works fine.

Nothing has led me to any conclusive answer.

Any help from anyone is appreciated. Thanks.

I believe I've heard of this before. Try sending the discrete on command several times.

Incidentally, older Sony DVD players -- S500D, S300 -- don't even respond right to discrete codes ("on" does nothing, "off" turns it off then back on no matter what).

Dan,

Do you mean to add several items in the Action list, or to just copy the discrete code several times in one action?

I will try both. Thanks for the help.

SRod,

I have the same DVD unit you do. Your macro is correct, it's the DVD player acting up. I have been able to reproduce the problem without the pronto.

I have had better luck changing the macro to use 'PLAY' instead of 'ON'.

Hi,

You can also add the Sony 725D DVD player to this auto switch off problem.

In my macro, I just have 2 calls to the DVD discret On code, 1 at the begining, 1 at the end with IR signals to switch on amp, switch on TV, switch to DVD channel, Switch Amp to DVD inbetween. Sometimes, it will still switch itself off.

I have a modified DVD player, with auto switching of regions, that may be the cause of it, unless yours hasn't been touched.

Either way, try adding "Discrete On" several times in your macro, hopefully after the rest of your commands. The beauty is if the first call worked, the second will be ignored... but if not, hopefully it'll turn on.

Thanks everyone.

I added the "power on" discrete code command at both the beginning and at the end of the macro. This way, I can check, and turn the DVD on again (if needed). Simple enough solution. Sometimes the neurons in my head just don't fire.
