I am an Aerospace Engineer (yes a rocket scientist) and a high price consultant developing web-based online applications been programming. I have developing applications for over 30 years but I can't get ProntoEdit 2.0 to work with my TSU 2000.

Everytime I try to paste IR codes the button's label disapears. If I try entering a new label it seems to work but then it shows without a name on the list. If I run the emulator and use the button I get an error and the emulator quits.

If I try using the learn mode through ProntoEdit after a few buttons I will get an error and ProntoEdit quits. The only salvation is the learning mode on the Pronto itself. But I have one old Laser Disk player for which I have no remote only discrete codes.

I've been programming one system or another for 30 years now and I don't remember being so frustrated. I almost put my one day old TSU-2000 up for sale.

BTW I did add the developer=1 line to the protno.ini file. I believe its chichen s _ _ t having to manualy configure the ini file, after all what is the purpose of an EDIT application if not to change things... ridiculous. And having to modify this file to make all the fonts available is simply silly.

Am I doing something wrong? Can someone help?

i've been using prontoedit without even owning a pronto for over 6 months now (what else am i supposed to do at work?), and just yesterday i finally got a pronto. i saved my config to my work computer and all of the sudden, for the first time, i get a dr. watson error that forces me to close prontoedit every time! i don't know what's up here either, i'm no rocket scientist like you, but the mere fact that it's been working fine for so long makes me mad as hell!

Read the FAQs (several times - all the way through), Download the manuals from this site (FAQs too) in .PDF format so they are always accessible to you.

Read Daniel's Review - **VERY** thorough and helpful.

Use SEARCH this FORUM, for anything you can't find in all of the above.

Ask *Specific* questions here, with as much detail as possible. Which Remote you have, Clear details of what is happening, not happening or what you want to try. What kind of PC you have with OS and peripherals if they pertain to your question. We like to help. But the best thing to do is to read the FAQ, end-to-end. A couple of times.

It is best to **NOT** try to learn codes through ProntoEdit. Create your panels, transfer to the Pronto, learn **ON** the Pronto, transfer back to ProntoEdit and tweak-away. Search the CCF Files Section for any pre-made CCFs and/or for any devices you don't have the OEM Remote for. There are also several Utilities for creating codes in the files section as well. List the Brand and Model Number of any devices you are having trouble with, maybe some kind soul who has had the same troubles can help you with it.

(By-the-way . . . did I suggest to Read the FAQs through, from end to end?)

Mike

Thanks for the advice, I had read the FAQ but like tramahound I had been playing with ProtoEdit for several weeks before getting my Pronto so the problems did not register with me the first time I read the FAQ, some items have significance now.

Mike is correct, both the problems are address in the FAQ (READ THE FAQ GUYS). But sad to say the FAQ only mentions the problem and no real solutions (ther that using ProtoEdit to design/layout buttons and use the unit learning mode). I am not faulting the FAQ but I am faulting Phillips for putting out such a terrible product (ProntoEdit) to "support" such a wonderful remote.

BTW this forum has been extreamly helpful in both my decision to buy a Pronto and now in helping me make the best use of it. Thanks to all who contribute and those who take the time to design/post CFFs.

I being working with P Edit for about 2 weeks now tweaking ccfs, merging panels, inserting IR codes from the list and generally having fun.

I drop over to the FAQ when ever I have a question and I printed off the P Edit manual. So far it's been a fun and interesting experience.

I find it additive as hell.

Sorry to hear you're having so much trouble Gil. Don't get to frustrated.

You're probably used to working with high end software packages that are tuned to perfection. Pronto Edit as you have guessed is a little rough around the edges.

Doing something that would be easy with most software is a convoluted twisted affair in Pronto Edit.

Have you tried dumping the program and loading a fresh version?

Good luck

Gil, I agree with you. That's why I moved to RTI's Theater Touch remote system.

Gil, there are workarounds. If you use ProntoEdit 1.05 to set up your pasted codes, there is no problem naming them. (Just create a simple CCF with a single panel with the codes you want, then use V2 to merge it into your real CCF and copy the buttons to where you want them.) This solution has appeared very many times in this forum.

The reason the fonts are not already enabled is that only the Letter characters work at these sizes. The special Symbol characters are only available in the original sizes.

Well day two is much better.

After reading and re-reading the FAQs and your fine posts I was able to "harness the beast". I now have about a 90% complete system with about 20 or so panels controlling my receiver, DVD, DSS, TV, tunner and CD player (still looking for the LD codes since I lost my remote).

I even programmed some niffty single buttons for my 6 year old's favorite stations (which require turning on TV and DSS, setting the TV to the right input and tunning the DSS to the Cartoon Network). Now the tweaking begins!

I thing I'll keep my Pronto.

I still wish that ProntoEdit be a little ...no... a lot better...oh well maybe for Christmas :)

We have been promised that V3 of ProntoEdit will be much better. It is the version that will come with the colour Pronto. Let's hope that it will work with the current models.
