I have received a lot of emails on this one. So, in the interest of efficiency, I will just address two issues since someone has already blown the 99-cent offering by way overbidding too early. That was the exact thing I told everyone not to do right in large blue type on the page. However, it is currently at $1,115.00. That makes a net cost to the current high bidder of $116.00 and it's still a steal! If you were not familiar with this fun puzzle chance to get a Pronto for 99-cents: CLICK TO TAKE A LOOK, It's the first one on the listIt will close on May 2nd, and the way it will be billed is NET. You will not have to 1st pay the (currently) $1,115.00. Many of you emailed to ask about that. I have added this to the bottom of the page, but that is where people really don't normally read. Sorry for this "semi-commercial" interruption in the interest of expediency. -Bruce alpha2data on eBay

It's a stupid marketing ploy if you ask me, but that's your prerogative of course. Keep it on eBay where it belongs.

Well, I wouldn't have said it Zimbo's way but it's getting pretty annoying to see all this free advertizing take place here. Daniel set up a marketplace forum. Take it there.

yeah, those ads running along the top and sides of the entire page are ok though huh? just don't view the post that clearly shows it as being about an ebay sale then. it's just like the ads on the top and side, i know they're there, but i've been conditioned to totally ignore them after dealing with them for so long. i've bought from alpha2data before and due to the great customer service and superb price i got from him i think anything he posts on this forum, be it sales related or simply an attempt to help somebody, is a service to those who frequent this site. but, that's just my opinion...

I'm with you Tramahound.
Don't like it? Don't look at it!
I have nothing but nice things to say about the man. He's a real straight shooter.

Again with people flaming each other in the forum. Just as it may be annoying to see advertisements here I think its worse to see people putting others posts down. Open forum = Open ideas and free flowing of information. Would you be as upset when people mention the equipment they hooked up to the Pronto, of course not. I think finding great values on equipment for the Pronto is one of the great resources this website and forum has offered me.

Yes, as a matter of fact, those ads running across the top and sides of the RemoteCentral site *are* OK. Those ads represent paid advertisers which bring in income to this site and help support it on an ongoing basis. On the other hand, alpha2data is using this public forum to get totally free advertising. That is a *big* difference.
I, too, ignore most of alpha2data's posts (except for the entertainment value of following all the flame wars). But don't confuse paid advertisers with what alpha2data is doing. If you look at the bottom of every page in this forum, it clearly states, "Please read the following: Unsolicited commercial advertisements are not permitted on this forum. Other buy & sell messages should be posted to the Marketplace Forum."

Tom's correct. The forum clearly states at the bottom of the page that commerical ads are to be located in the marketplace forum. alpha2data might respond that no one would see his posts in the other forum so he ignores the rules and posts as he sees fit. All of the helpful posts he makes in this forum shouldn't give him license to break the rules. Alas, this issue has been going round and round for some time and I expect the rules will continue to be ignored.
I am surprised that the forum moderator(s) don't take any action. I guess that as long as they allow the rules to be broken, all parties interested in doing so will.
I suggest that until the forum mentors take action, we all stop wasting time on the issue as they are the only people in a postion to correct the problem.

like you said, it's a public forum, and moderators are in place to enforce rules. the thread was posted, i personally didn't find anything wrong with it, you, and others, did. i just think it's funny how those who think threads like these have no place on this particular forum continue to post replies, thus bumping the thread up into everybody's view yet again ensuring that more people see it. i could see if alpha2data was posting a message every day saying, "hey everybody, don't forget, i sell prontos on ebay, here's a link, buy from me, did i mention i sell prontos?" at least i haven't seen any such posts from him that were that blatant. just like every other communication medium this forum is filled with advertisements and we are forced to filter them out to get the information we need. just be thankful alpha2data doesn't use animated banner ads to slow down your load time like those "legit" ones framing this forum do. but then again, that's just my opinion...

Folks... Let me straighten this out. After _multiple_ requests for commercial rates on advertising etc. directed to Daniel Tonks that went unanswered for about two months, I finally received an email yesterday from Eric Tonks.. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Eric Tonks" < [email protected]> To: < [email protected]> Sent: Friday, May 04, 2001 12:25 AM Subject: Advertising on RemoteCentral.com > Thank you for your enquiry regarding advertising on RemoteCentral.com. We > are pleased to announce that we are now able to accept banner advertising on > this site in response to those requests. I immediately responded with a request for additional info in follow up so that I could set my plans. You will note the date of today, May 4th and the statement "we are now able to accept". So, I am unaware of the history behind that, but I know I have tried. In the interim, and still currently until I can get the contract in place, which obviously will take a little time, this kind of post in this thread was hopefully a favor to you folks here. If one person didn't go crazy, that Pronto would have could have indeed for 99-cents. It was no "ploy". It was done to bring attention to our other offerings on eBay. It did go for $201.05 to the winning lucky bidder using a program called "eSnipe" to grab it. The cost to me do do that "promo" was about $340.00 in round numbers. Whether it fed the other auctions in a positive cash flow (profitable) way or not, I still have to calculate. It may not have, but if I feel it did, I may repeat it on a bundle next time with slightly different numbers. I would never post something like that unless it had a real world chance of being won. I cannot, however, control what people do. Sorry. -Bruce alpha2data on eBay

Hello Bruce,
Glad to hear that you got confirmation for advertising on RemoteCentral.com. You will be joining both your Pronto expertise/assistance on this forum as well as your excellent reputation/professionalism for selling the Pronto (I can personally testify for this).
Looking forward to seeing your ad on this great site (this will most likely diminish the number of personal attacks you are getting from replies on this forum).
P.S. I think you got carried away with the previous reply, the included links do not refer to valid URLs.

OOPS! You are correct, Martin, and thank you for the nice words: The corrected first ($259.00) one : [Link: cgi.ebay.com]The corrected 2nd ($249.00) one: [Link: cgi.ebay.com]and the Dutch "Bundle" (TSU2k + DS1k) [Link: cgi.ebay.com]I think it is something that Front Page is doing. I had posted a plea here a few weeks back for an HTML programmer ACE willing to partially barter, and got zero repsonses. I had been doing my own basic HTML by hand. I only knew what I knew by learning "by example". Then last Saturday a friend gave me a new sealed legal copy of Front Page 97. I fell in love... gee, they should have asked about Front Page instead of ProntoEDIT in that survey just posted{Smile}... spent all day Saturday and all night into Sunday learning etc. However, there seems to be some Front Page specific methodolgy that I have not figured out yet it terms of code use. So, when I did their method for the prior post, I missed changing some minor oddity (or RC is now trapping outside links in someway??) Thank you for catching that! -Bruce alpha2data
