Can anyone recommend a good USB to Serial adaptor that works well with ProntoEdit?

I am using a Vaio with Win2K and it only has a USB port, I've tried a Belkin adaptor but I could not get ProntoEdit to connect through this.

Thanks

Denise,

Do a search on the forum using the key word of "belkin" to find the strings that describe which model of Belkins adapters work with the Pronto. Some models work and some do not

Denise;

Did you use the correct adapter? I use a KeySpan High Speed USB-Serial Adapter (USA-19W), Keyspan makes several different kinds of Serial/USB adapters and *this* is the only one that will work with the Pronto.

It might be the same for Belkin. When I was researching which adapter to use, I came across this about Belkin;

"I used the Belkin USB - Serial adapter, and it worked great. The model number is F5U103.

Stay away from USB-to-PDA adapters!

My new problem is that the UPS I have needs to connect to COM1. BUT...ProntoEdit refuses to look past COM1. It simply says COM1 is busy and never moves on. I can connect other serial devices, such as my X10 interface, to the serial adapter, but both the UPS and the Pronto just won't see anything that isn't on COM1.

this is on Win98se, BTW. Any ideas?

I tried the Belkin without success. Their drivers seem to be less than friendly to Windows in some cases. I now use another USB to serial and it works fine. Send me an EMail and I'll let oyu know what the brand/model is when I'm back in the office. I also did a little manual renaming of the COM ports in the registry after Win's plug and play failed to provide a COM port number in range for prontoedit. Plug and play just isn't what it's cracked up to be sometimes.
