CD player died . . . So now I get to go out and get a new one. I've got a good discount with Sony so I'm leaning that way, but which one? I'd like to find one that allows for good use of my Pronto. What are some other features to look for? I've got a dedicated DVD player already . . .

Leo:
I would suggest that you look at the CDP CX400. It is a 400 Disk player. I have the CX450, got it before I decided to get a Pronto. The only difference between the two models is the two-way display remote. If you are using a Pronto, you really do not need the two-way remote. In addition, if you use Leo Davidson's SuperNudelist you can generate a direct access list to all the CDs.
Hope this helps Doug

I have a sony CDP CX400, and before that I had a JVC 200 disc changer, if you want a 400 disc one you don't really have a choice, but the sony is very quite too. If you want a 200 disc you have a bunch to choose from. but i'd spend a little extra and just buy a 400.

I have the Sony 400 and the Pronto. I also use Nudelist with about 180 CDs. Everything works well. One point - the Sony unit is 21 1/4 inches deep - if you have the room, then no problem. HNick

I understand Nudelist provides for disc selection, but how about random play (shuffle) on a "sub-set" or group? I know the unit has this capability. Can I access this functionality with the Pronto? Would I need special "Discrete" codes? I see in the specs "Jog" selection . . . . . . . 200 discs seems like a lot to me and the 21+ depth is outrageous but if the 200 changer doesn't have the right bells and whistles . . . . .

As others have recommended, I would buy a Sony. I have 2 Sony 200 CD mega changers (CDP-CX250) giving me great service for the last 3 years. The older models like mine are a bit noisy during the disc selection process. The player is 19" deep.
If I had to buy one today, I would get the 400 disc CX-400. All have Toslink outputs that you could connect to your pre-amp/processor for better sound quality. You may even look into the Sony 200 CD/DVD changer.

One great feature of the Sony Mega changers is that you can delete specific tracks off any CD and the player will always skip them during play mode.
The GROUP feature lets you organize your collection into 8 named groups - however if you make an extensive CD list on your Pronto, this is redundant.
Try OneCall in Washington. They always have great deals on these Sony changers.

I have a 300 disc Sony, but don't use my pronto to control it. I use slink/cdj from Nirvis.

I have the 555ES 400 Disc changer from Sony and I love it. I also have it mated with a 333ES for a total of 800 discs.
I bought them both online from speedandsound.com and they were very good (great prices, speedy delivery.)
I like the ES Sony's better than the regular Sony's for a few reasons. Sound quality and build quality seem to be better, and they have a few better options that you don't see on the regular Sony's.
At least look at the ES 400 disc changers, I'm sure you'll be impressed.
As for using it on the Pronto, I have yet to go through the huge undertaking it may be to get some of the 800 discs into the pronto :-) I'm using the two way remote that comes with it (the ONLY remote I don't have programmed in my Pronto)
Good Luck & Take Care, John

I have 3 cdpcx300's and a 555ES and I can't hear any sound difference and I have very high quality speakers. I have them all controlled with my pronto and works awesome thanks to SuperNudelist.
