I have no idea about the way alpha does business other than it's talked about on this forum all day long. I defintely support independent shops selling electronics.
I'm tired though, of sifting through all this mindless chatter to retrieve some bit of useful knowledge. I would guess that most of the people visiting this site regularly use it for educational purposes and to share hints, ideas, etc. Most people probably own a Pronto or 5000 already, or are looking to make an educated buying decision. Chatter about "30 minutes left," or "What's-his-name's got bad Prontos," or "I just LOVE sellin' Prontos" is a waste of everyone's time. You might just be turning people away from using this valuable resource.
Don't get me wrong- I prefer doing business with someone other than a national retailer like Best Buy. I'd much rather deal with a personal shop and even pay a little more, if necessary. I don't think this is the best place for it. Maybe there could be a separate location to host a "business matters" section on the site.
I believe people are doing a disservice to this forum by using it to discuss business and gossip.

I agree. Maybe Daniel can open a new forum and move the threads over

But I have a further question:
Where *IS* Daniel and why hasn't he weighed in on this matter, or done a bit of policing?

I don't agree that all of these messages are a waste of everyone's time. For someone looking to buy a Pronto at a good price the "30 minutes left" kind of messages may be very helpful. And if they're titled that way, they're very easy to skip over if you already have a Pronto.
As for the other two categories mentioned, I agree they serve no good purpose. Unfortunately, with the anonymous posting capability there's really no way to stop them. Allowing posts by registered, verified members only is the sole fix that comes to mind. It's the anonymity that encourages that kind of post. Get rid of the anonymity and the posts will stop.

I knew that there HAD to be others out there that felt the same way.
There's got to be a better way than for Daniel to MANUALLY transfer or eliminate these threads. I DO think their valuable, just not here.
For those who want to go shopping, use the Marketplace Forum. This way people who want to buy/sell their remotes can do so.
AGAIN- I don't want to hurt anyone's business, just please do it ELSEWHERE! It's beginning to feel like a teenage chatroom.....

However, I can't think of a forum to move them to. "Gripe about dealers here"? ;-)
