I know Toshiba doesn't have a discrete on/off for their TV's. But, is this true for big screens also?

sorry but yes even the RPTV's don't have discreets. What sometimes works is that the discrete on can be emulated as a power on/off IR followed by a .1 second pause then another power on/off toggle. For discrete off alias to the "discrete" on then pause for 6 seconds then fire another power on/off. This works most of the time but not always...unfortuntatly its about the best we can do without using an X10 applicence module to do it for us (what I'm going to start using soon)

What that does is take advantage of the fact that the TV is "blind" to IR signals for a number of seconds after power-on.
