One of my friends has managed to put his finger through the screen of my pronto.
According to the dealer I purchased it from, Philips do not offer any spare parts (at least in the UK) and this can't be fixed. A new one would need to be purchased.
Does anyone know if this true - do I really have to buy a new one just because the screen is cracked? The buttons on the right still work but obviously the touchpad does not.
Any help would be gratefully received.
Thanks Paul.

Here in the U.S. the customer neds to pay $150.00 to get the unit replaced for a cracked screen. I do not know the policy for the UK.

For the US Philips will repair it, you might try calling the maintenance number in Europe to see if they have a similar policy [Link: remotecentral.com]Here are some links to dealers (so that you can find the screens, and repair it yourself [Link: remotecentral.com][Link: remotecentral.com]Hope this helps.

Thank you both for taking the time to reply. The threads you have provided links to are very interesting.
Do you (or anyone else reading this) happen to know of a retailer in the UK which could supply a screen? The companies listed are all based in the US (I will ask them if they can ship abroad anyway).
Thanks again for your time.
Paul.

If the screen was cracked under normal use, and the unit is within the one year warranty period, Philips will replace the Pronto. If it is out of warranty, call Philips and they will tell you where to send it to be fixed for $99.

PaulK, Be very careful of that friend of yours. Very powerful fingers. Be sure to give him the repair bill. KKM

Look around this site! There have been numerous discussions about replacement screens. Samsung at 1-800655-0006 sells a replacement screen for $61 you install it! There have been other sources mentioned. Remember!!! The screen does NOT respond to pressure, it responds to touch something sharp like a pencil tip or more practical your fingernail rather than the pad of your finger. Of course by now you have figured this out the hard way
