You know that little button on the face of the tae9000es tat says 'optical/analog' Has anyone successfully gotten a discrete code for it? Or even a toggle to cycle through the options?

Thanks.

I haven't seen one. I have a 555ES and it will automatically toggle between optical and analog if you set the receiver to do so. It then automatically determines which input to use when it senses a signal. I would think that the 9000ES would have the some option since it is their flagship seperates model. I don't know if this helps.

Yes, the 9000es will automaticaly switch to the active input-the trouble is i have used all the inputs (DSS to optical LD, computer to coax LD, videocam to analog LD) and some (like the computer) are on all the time. Powering down the computer just to have the 9000 auto switch is something i cannot do. Anyone have any experience with this? Even the sony remote (either the original or the new one with the 2.01 firmware upgrade) do not provide direct access to this function-only through navigation on the the 9000es display screen.

Thanks.

Hey Karos

Where did yo get your firmware upgrade?. And also was it worth it?. Been thinking about upgrading my 9000ES as it has the original firmware still installed.

i think it was worth it- the music sounds a little smoother on stereo. The new surround modes give cinema a new dimensionality.

As an installer of custom A/V equiptment, i see no reason if you have a digital input for a component to ever want to switch back to analogue.Even if a broadcast isn't in digital, the sound still sounds better using digital anyway
