Hi !

I am desperately searching the discrete codes for:
- on
- off
- and the DSPs

for my Yamaha RX-V396rds receiver. I was hoping that the 596rds would help (it seems to be the "old" version of it) but comparing learned codes from my remote learnt me that they're not the same... :-(

Thanks.

I emailed Yamaha and they replied telling me that they do not have discrete codes for their products.

Thanks...

Well, I'm so going to the store buying a OFA6 because I tried one once and I found the discrete code...

Solution, finding them again with the OFA6, storing the signal in the pronto and then bringing back the OFA6 and asking for cash return because it does not "fit" to my needs ;-)

This is Yamaha's fault !...

I will do so with my Tv at the same time (Thomson 28WN22E) because I did not find the discrete codes for it neither...

Matt-

OK, you're convinced this is Yamaha's fault that not every receiver they sell has discrete codes. I'll agree that discretes rule, and point out that Yamaha is breaking new ground on the new extended IR models.

Putting aside the fact that many other receivers don't have them, and that Yamaha never claimed to have them for this model, I'd like some insight on your thought process.

As a retailer I'm curious... why do you think it's OK to "buy" a product you have no intention of keeping, take it home and use it, then lie about it "not fitting your needs" and demand a cash refund?

The retailer did nothing improper or dishonest to you, and he will now have an open-box product that costs him both time and money to deal with.

Is there something here I'm missing?

Barry-

I understand your point of view and I agree that this method is not a nice one...

However, I will buy and return this remote to a big reseller, or I'd better say a big national hypermarket here in France, called Carrefour.

Considering the money they make during a financial year, I have no regrets in doing this (moreover the returned open remotes are back on the shelves if they were properly opened (that's the condition to have money back)).

In France only big hypermarkets do the money return and I will never, never do this to a little local reseller...

Hope this help you to understand.

So... did you find the codes?

I've got a 396 also, and I'm in need of the codes you mention, plus preferably a code to select "LD/DVD Auto" specifically, rather than a toggle between that and "LD/DVD Analog".

Any luck?
