Yup, it should. Are your batteries new enough? Can you hear a buzzing sound?

I'm using the re-charging station--had been off for quite a while...not in use.

I wonder if the charge will ever get back to normal?

just in case, place regular new bataries.
setup the light time for both (the screen and the hard buttons) to , lets say, 15 sec.
To setup click and hold the center icon (called mode menu) near the left/right buttons.

By the way - I hate the noice (a light wizzzzzz) my pronto does when the secreen got light.
And I thought it only happend to me?!

I had this exact same problem and changed the batteries but it didnt work. The thing to do is go into the setup menu on the pronto/rc5000 (press and hold pronto/rc5000 icon down until setup menu appears) scroll down 1 page and you should get the page that has the calibrate button on it make sure that both button and touch volumes are turned right up (or at least on) press the icon again and you will get back to the normal operating screen now when you press the touchscreen the backlight should come on.

I had this problem on a TS-1000. It was a hardware problem, replacing the L-1 inductor fixed the backlight for me.

Jim, You are 100% correct. If you look through the hole in the battery compartment you can see this coil. What happens is the opening is not big enough so when the is accidently dropped or bumped the case hits the coil and breaks it loose. The hole should be enlarged after replacing the coil.

Aaron, I can empathize - I have the exact same problem. I called Philips and they never heard of the problem. Jim & LEB, please inform of how we go about fixing the 'L-1 inductor'.

Thanks for your help.

I seem to recall an earlier thread with detailed instructions on how to order & replace the backlight coil. Search the forun on "backlight coil" or "L-1 inductor".
