Has anyone tested using a Pronto from a different room to control equipment using an IR Receiver\Repeater cabling system to connect the rooms?

I beieve that AMX and Niles offer this cabling system, anyone know if it would work with my Pronto?

Thanks...Rohit

Yup! do it all the time! Works flawlessly. I use the Radio Shack pyramid units. No cabling required it transmits the IR info via RF to the receiving pyramid which sends it to the equipment as a repeated IR signal. In fact I have two transmitters in two different locations so I can change channels on my DircTv unit

Pronto signal is so strong that the thing works better now than it did with the orig controllers

I have the one-for-all IR repeaters, two transmitters and one receiver to control my MP3 player in one room from two others. Works pretty well except for the transmitter downstairs seems to generate random signals when no IR is being sent to it. I think that this is the poor quality PSU's that are supplied with the system. It's a little annoying because the 433Mhz signal blurts all over my car alarm controller and stops it from working.

Koop,

Please tell me more about the Radio Shack units. What kind of distance can these units support.

My needs are for 50ft distance from upstairs to downstairs.

For Rohit

The unit is called a Wireless Remote Control Extender. Not sure of cat# but I still see them advertised. I have one transmitter that is about 50' away. It works okay. It is in my computer room and I found that I needed to place it 2 - 3 feet away from the computer stuff or it wouldn't transmit reliably. The Pronto unit works VERY well with it. I guess because it's IR signal is stronger and pointing directly at the pyramid isn't as critical. Remember at Radio Shack they will take stuff back with much hassle so give it a try and see if it meets your needs.

There are also other brands. Check Home Controls. www.homecontrols.com.

My DirecTV receiver is in the dining room and I have used these units for 4 years to switch channels from the living room and also from my back bedroom(computer room)

I install IR repeating systems everyday. Obviously hardwired systems are going to work more reliably that RF pyramids, but sometimes you don't have a choice. If your interested in knowing exact part #'s from Xantech, for hardwired IR systems, let me know how many components you have and I'll put something together for you.

B Hester,

What type of cabling do hardwired systems require?

Is there a limitation on the distance \ length of the cabling?

My needs are for three components, HTPC using a wireless keyboard and mouse, RCA DTC-100 HDTV receiver and a Receiver. These units needs to be controlled from a different room about 50 ft away.

Can you also give me rough idea on the cost of parts?

Thanks in advance...Rohit
