Are the custom BMP and CCF files interchangeable between Pronto and Marantz? Or, as I suspect, are they specific for one or the other?

Bitmaps are not specific, and can be used on either remote. CCF files have some differences due to the different features of the two remotes. In most cases a Pronto ccf can be edited with minimal work to operate on an RC5000 and vice versa. Either editing program will open and edit the others ccf file.

One more thing! Firmware updates are specific to each remote, and should only be done with the correct version for the remote....

The actual version (1.5,2.1....) is more important, usually older can open newer but newer cannot open older. Since the RC5000 is at 2.1 and the Pronto TS1000 is at 1.5 you would need to have both to be able to save the RC5000 CCF as old version and then ProntoEdit to download.
When you open a ccf in a different format, it strips out all that it does not like.

CCF files are pretty much unique -- something I've been trying in vain to get Philips to see as a BAD thing -- but each successive version of ProntoEdit or RC5000 can typically open all current and past formats, or save in a format compatible with the previous version.

Daniel,

Do you mean that each successive version of ProntoEdit and RC5000 can open "current and past formats" of ProntoEdit and RC5000 only or "current and past formats" of each other's CCF files? I suspect you mean the former and not the latter. Thanks.

For instance, ProntoEdit 2.0 can open 1.05, 1.04, 1.03 etc files, along with RC5000 2.0 (there's a bug here though), 1.02.3, etc.
