I ordered the Remote Extender from smarthome.com, and after playing with it last night think it is a very useful product and it is not very inexpensive. The IR transmitter/RF receiver seems very powerful and I was able to position it in the back of my room, fairly high up and it "always" controlled all of my compontents. There is no "lag" in the system and I experienced no "errors." Control of my system was unambiguous with the RF control. I was using the 12 volt battery that comes for the RF transmitter. The RF transmitter that goes on the remote is designed to be "velcroed" to the front of the remote and that won't work on many remotes. So Scott's idea to put it inside the remote is very clever indeed. I use an RC2000 for my main remote (real buttons) and the RC5000i to capture discrete codes and teach them to the RC2K. I'm going to see if I can squeeze the RF transmitter inside the RC2K and will report back. If you are handy with a soldering iron, this should be a pretty easy mod. Scott, thanks for sharing your discovery with the group and good luck with the new job!
