It no longer talks to ProntoEdit. I tried every thing I can think of. I suspect the internal connector is bad. Also, it's always had a reboot problem despite all the fixes.

Does anyone have the 800 number handy so I can see about replacing this unit?

Bob, I've just suffered the same issue today. I got it to resume just by removing and reinserting the jack. Wiggled it around a bit and it seems to work.

Good Luck!

That worked once. Later when I tried to reconnect, it refused to talk. I reset the Pronto, reseated all the connectors again (even the ones inside the computer), but this time it won't talk no matter what. I'll call Philips later.

If you're able to, create a Hyperterminal connection to the serial port your Pronto is on. Once connected, reboot the Pronto. Text should appear on-screen.

If wiggling the connection makes it work then either the jack is wearing out or has become corroded. It may be worth geting some contact cleaner at Radio Shack and apply some to the male jack before inserting it into the pronto. Do this several times to get the cleaner spread around on the contacts inside the Pronto. I wouldn't directly spray the cleaner into the pronto it may or may not cause problems and could affect the plastic case. The above method if done several times should help the corrosion if that is the problem. Otherwise open up the case(only if out of warranty) and look at the jack and resolder in a new one if you are so skilled and brave.

I also just had this exact problem! The pronto will no longer connect to my PC and it just happened out of the blue. Great. It's out of warranty and I live in Canada.......
