Okay, I'm using ProntoEdit 1.05 to work with my Ts1000.. However, My Com-1 port is in use by a Microsoft Phone system, and the port that I need ProntoEdit to actually use is Com-3..

Sometimes prontoedit recognizes that Com1 is in use, and proceeds up the line untill it finds the Pronto, and then other times it seemingly acts dumb and just looks for the Pronto on Com-1 over and over again, leaving me dead in the water..

Just last night it worked beautifully on Com-3 numerous times (As it's done in the past), then this morning (Never even rebooted, computer was on all night untouched!) it refuses to look at anything short of Com-1.

Is there any way to _force_ ProntoEdit to look at a specific Comport, or is there some other secret to make it work?

I'm getting frustrated.. It's becomming a real pain in the butt rewiring the back of the computer to update my Pronto every couple of days..

Help!

I'd suggest 2 things here:

1) Do a search for this problem here. There are many such question with many fine responses from the great folks that frequent this site.

2)I had this problem with an IBM laptop. Simply changing the port name from COM 3 to COM 1 fixed the problem instantly. Amazingly enough the name change didn't create any interupt conflicts elsewhere and as far as I can tell everything else seems to still work!

Hope that helps

I may be overlooking something here but I tried and tried to add ports and could not get Com 1 to come up. How do you change the name of a port? I have an IBM laptop with Com2 only.

Okay.. I searched for "Com Port" and did indeed find quite a plethora of posts dealing with this topic - most of them I had read before.

I did try to browse some new threads, but the site seems to be suffering major lag tonight and I was forced to abort some attempts, so without doubt I may possibly have missed some usefull responses.

However, after an hour of reading posts, unless I missed it, there has been no full conclusion on this problem, or a fix.

Can anyone say conclusively what this problem is, and if there's *anything* I can do to make ProntoEdit connect reliably to my Ts1000? It's extremely frustating rebooting over and over again hoping to fix what seems to be a random problem..

FWIW, here's my Comport Config...

Com 1 - PNP 33.6 Faxmodem.. Not used since I have a cablemodem, but it's there none the less.

Com 2 - Microsoft Phone System.

Com 3 - Runs to a splitter box where I can switch back and forth from a CM11A (X10 Home Automation) to the Pronto serial cable. When I'm looking to use the Pronto, I shut down the HA software so that it's no longer occupying the Comport, and then load ProntoEdit.

However, As I mentioned initially, ProntoEdit seems to randomly refuse to even search past Com 1... When it _does_ search all the comports properly, it finds the Pronto on Com 3 every time, and works perfect..

Help!

I can't say I have had the exact same problem, but I had my mouse on com1 and an open com3. I did have problems getting connected, but my problem was a bad serial ribbon cable (cable connecting the mother board to the port). When I replaced the cable, I also switched com1 and com3 so my pronto connects to com1 always. Since you are not using your modem, I would remove it. Check your bios and if your com port is set to 3 change it to 1 (if you bios allows). Then remove the modem and com port from the device manager in the system settings (in the control panel). When you restart the computer(or refresh the device mgr) your com port should switch to com1. Since pronto edit always searches in order, you should connect every time.
