Right now we've got six photographs of the Pronto Pro available in our CES 2001 section here. Check 'em out! Further details will come later.

The MSRP will be around $1000. I will pay about $650-$700 for it, that is if the retailers STREET price will come that low. The STREET price depends on a few determining factors (supply and demand), so lets hope that Philips has/will manufacture TONS of Pronto Pros.

Looks like I'm going to have to double(or triple)up on my piggy bank savings!

All Philips has yet said is "under $1000". They won't confirm $999, but the original projected price was $799. Since then they've added RF, so I do expect a higher price, but I'm not sure $200 higher. But I'm sure in six months someone will come across this message and laugh -- either for our high or low projections. :-)

My name is Zor-gonn.

I am a time traveler from the future.

The other day, I paid $2.99 for my 100 GB ProntoPro. It was included free with my $12.99 box of Cheerios (inflation, you know).

Anyways, gotta go. I think I just heard my Sony Aibo-maid drop my antique 2019 American vase.

I meant $12.99, not $2.99.

I'm not used to your 21st century keyboard interface (my mind-meld UI has a bug in it right now).

I'd like a Pronto Pro version without RF and Color for the price of the current Pronto. I love the styling and extra ram of the pro.

I just wish they'd (a) open up the screen (who doesn't want this?) and (b) provide hard buttons for menu navigation (i.e. four arrows and a select/OK button in the middle).

The colour screen looks very nice but it doesn't actually improve the functionality of the device. :-)

Seems a wasted opportunity to me, although the Pronto range will still be the best remote controls while all other consumer-level devices have limited device/panel/button button numbers.

Well, I don't agree that it is a wasted opportunity. I find my new Pronto 2000 a bit hard to read and the new screen looks like a HUGE improvement in that department. Whether that's worth $400-500 I agree could be something reasonable people could differ on.

What I'd LOVE to see is greater access to the actual language that controls the Pronto. I'd welcome the ability to set up more dynamic processes with the ability to interact with user supplied information.

While ProntoEdit is helpful, for truly advanced users they should provide some more flexible way to actually program the device.

Very neat styling...but

- will it control IrDA devices?
- the RF receiver is optional? Presumably then this will be an add on device that translates Ir to RF? Not the most elegant solution if it is...?

Sorry if the above have been covered elsewhere.

Despite the neat looks I think I'll wait until it's below 200GBP. People still laugh at how much my original was, especially as it won't do the cable box!

$500 ($800-$300 original price)for a color upgrade? Me thinks not.

I've been in a Handspring Visor buying mood lately. I got my wife a visor basic, with 2meg ram and a monochrome screen. It was $180. A Visor Prism (color model) with 8 meg ram is $450. I think this is a parallel comparison of Visors/Prontos. There are two ways to look at it. The price difference is $270. If the 8 meg Pronto color model was only $270 more than the 2 meg monochrome model, it would be $600ish, rather than $1000ish or $800ish. Then again, the 8meg Color Visor price is 250 percent higher than the monochrome 2meg version. 250 percent of $300 is $750. $750 is still less than $800.

My conclusion? There's no way the color Pronto should cost $800. I think they would sell thousands if the price was $599 or less. It's a reasonable markup for color technology. At $799 or $999 they are gouging us.

My two cents.

David, you are comparing apples and oranges. You are comparing street price of current Pronto with possible MSRP of color Pronto. MSRP of current Pronto is $399.

Using your percentage comparison, $399 would become $999. Also means that street price might be $750.
