I have 2 RC50000i's. One of them was set up by a "professional" home thearter installer. The other one was not. Both systems have some of the same componets like DSS and TV. I wanted to upload the one done by this installer and then download it to the other remote, saving some time. However, when I went to upload the one remote, I got this error:
"Set the RC5000, you are working with"
Set it where? on my lap? in the trash?
This is the kicker, I can upload and download to the other remote just fine.
I did see a msg posted to this board earlier on something similar to this problem and they suggested to re-install the RC50000 software. I did that and I had the same issue.
I have not tried to download to the "broken" remote yet, just because I dont want to lose what is already programmed.
Is it possible that the installer set something that prohibits uploading or editiing?
BTW - I am using Windows ME

when you install RC5000setup a dialog box appears asking if you have an RC5000 or an RC5000(i), that must be what it is asking.

You can set the memory sive from the file > set memory size menu.

There's been other messages on this. I believe the previous posters are right, though I don't think anyone with the problem has ever followed up with what solved it for them. :-)

I have a new RC5000 and have same problem. I tried on ME and 98 but no joy and also on various com ports on two machines. I have also tried the other recommended actions.

I have the correct memory size set. I have RC5000i's so I set it to 2MB.
Since I have 2 RC5000i's and on 1 of them can upload and download, I WANT to rule out the OS, but then we are talking about Windows :)
I have a laptop with Win95 on it, so I may try that. I really think that it is the remote.
Maybe the communation port in the remote is hung up? If I reset the remote will I lose the data I have already proggrammed in the remote?
Also, they (who ever wrote the edit software) needs to have a lesson in writing better error msg boxes.

I'm having the same problem with uploading information from my RC5000i. I can download stuff without problem but when I learn a few codes and attempt to upload the ccf back into the editor, I always get a "Please set RC5000 that you are using" error. The only thing that I can think of is to use the menu in the editor (v2.31 from this site) to set the memory size again (1MB or 2MB) but this doesn't work. I have tried rebooting, etc. (I have searched the forums FAQ without much luck) as there is no real resoultion here (I have downloaded, learnt and failed to upload three times...).
To add to my frustration, it used to work - I uploaded the original ccf file that my audio shop installed for me with some of the components in it.
I am thinking of reinstalling the editor. Is this any use? Anything else I can try before I throw the RC at a wall?
Thanks,
Paul.

Had the same problem. After upgrading to Touch Screen Setup 1.0.14 the ccf uploaded correctly from the 5000i and also upgraded the firmware correctly (which uploaded the ccf before the update and downloaded it again afterwards) but then would not download a ccf into the 5000i using the download button.
The only way I've got it working is by using Touch Screen Setup 1.0.14 to upload ccf's and perform edits and using RCSetup 2.2 to download ccf's back to the 5000i.
Hope this helps someone.

Touch Screen Setup marks a configuration file used by RC5000 Setup as "read only", thus it can't modify it. Download and use Pronto.ini Workshop, it'll work.
