I searched all forums for references to the JVC RX-809V audio/video receiver, but found none. The 809V was produced in the early 90s. Mine was purchased in '92 or '93. The Radio Shack 15-2116 8-In-1 Universal Remote Control manual says, "works with infrared-controlled components manufactured after 1989" so I would think that it *should* be able to control my 809V, but so far no joy.

I can get the 15-2116 to control the volume of the 809V, but nothing else. You can use device "learning" to re-program any button except the POWER, Program and Light.

I've tried a "manual search" for every possible code in the Receiver and Amplifier categories. The manual says that if you can't find a workable code, visit RadioShack.Com, but I couldn't find any help there either. Maybe I was supposed to go to the website... and buy a model which actually works?

Any suggestions?

This question has been answered many times. Do a search, look for "jvc receiver" in the "One4All" forum.

Basically the 2116 has a 0331 code which may be partially useful to you (you did not say which code you were using!) but the best code is likely 0174 which is not in the 2116...

As you mentioned, you can learn all the required signals, but it is a pain and uses too much memory if you have to do this for a few devices... Plus if the batteries go south, you will have to redo it all.

What I did (2116 remote with JVC 884 receiver) was to make (you can also buy them) a JP1 cable and to use the free software from this site to re-program the remote - this lets you can add any code you want. You can save your setup to a local file on your hard-drive, make changes, and then submit them back to the remote.

I went a few steps further and used an extender, which gives you very fast macros and more freedom in programming. A lot of talented experts in this forum have got this stuff aced and are kind enough to share the tools they developed for free!

You can set up device macros with this remote, which means if you press TV, it will be a macro that will turn on the tv, turn it to the correct input mode, turn on your receiver, set the tv mode, turn on a cable or sat box etc... Very convenient to press one button instead of 10. This is not possible on most remotes unless you install an extender.

JP1 is the ultimate if you spend some time to learn it... You won't be disappointed.

BTW - If you just bought this remote, return it and purchase the 2117 model - it is the same remote, same price, but it also includes an RF module which lets you use the remote anywhere in the house (ie it uses radio signals instead of infrared).
