The 8811 and 8550 are completely different animals. The URC-8550 "Topline 8" is the Euro version of the US URC-8080 "Producer 8" (well it's actually more like the
URC-8200 "Odyssey" remote, but very few people have heard of that remote). It has an LCD screen, but it doesn't have learning.
The URC-8811 is also an 8 device remote which does have learning but doesn't have an LCD screen.
The main difference between the 8550 and the 8811, for a JP1 perspective, is the fact that the 8550 uses a Mitsubishi 740 processor, whereas the 8811 uses the much more popular Samsung S3C8 processor. While support fot the 740 is good, there's much wider support for the S3C8.
The other key difference is the learning ability. In the JP1 world, if there isn't a ready made upgrade available for your device, you will need to use the learning feature to capture the signals from your original remote. You would then use this info to build yourself a new upgrade.
The 8811 is not available in Europe, but if you want one, I can sell you one (I only have one left though). If you'd rather get a European learning remote, check out the URC-7562
