Have searched extensively here and JP1 sites for any info on Carver Preamps and have come up dry. The remote has model # RH-5 on the back. Any help with this request would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Bryan

There is a CCF file here
[Link: remotecentral.com]

for a Carver Preamp. It isn't the same model you have, but there is a godd chance the IR codes are the same.

It uses RC5 and RC5x protocols, devices 16 and 17. The basic commands seem to be the same as in Marantz and other receivers that use RC5 protocol. For some advanced commands it seems to use the same mix of device and subdevice numbers as the Marantz, but with suprisingly different details. Maybe the CCF is just strange it the Carver really uses the same IR commands as Marantz.

What OFA (or RS etc.) remote do you have and do you have a JP1 cable? That will help in figuring out setup codes.

I have the URC-8810W from Wal-mart and the JP1 cable is on the way. I was hoping I could manually program some of the keys until I get the cable to do further investigations.

Thanks for your response. I am amazed that Carver is so hard to work with. This remote handled everything else I had right out of the box ;-)

Regards,
Bryan

I still haven't checked RC5x and combo setup codes, and the 8810 has a poor selection of simple RC5 codes. But there is one setup code that should have signals matching your device.

Try the CH+ and CH- buttons in the audio setup code 1120.
It's unclear from the CCF whether those are really CH+ and CH- or some other + and - feature, but it shouldn't be too hard to tell using the device itself. I also think the digit '1' in that setup code will be a discrete input select, but the other digits probably won't be useful.

All this gets much simpler once you have the JP1 cable.
