I have just had to send back a brand new NC50 as it wouldn't connect with the Q50 via Z-wave. Tried everything as I initially refused to believe it was faulty, but in the end sent it back. The replacement worked immediately. I suspect the aerial myself, the Packaging provides very little protection for the aerial in transit. Not sure how you'd test for a faulty aerial.

As an afterthought, Nevo had issues with NC50 antennas for awhile, when it first came out and did offer swap outs of those antennas on the NC50 for free. This goes back 1-2 years but I guess it is possible that the unit you have might be an older in-stock distribution product and maybe the antenna is bad? That will certainly kill your RF performance.
If you cannot get a replacement antenna you might try some of the external antenna solutions on the market which allow the NC50 antenna jack to be extended via a shielded wire and use other third party extended antenas.
