Hi everyone,

I was just wondering about whether UEI will still continue support for the installed base of Q50 owners. For example, will there be an updated Z-wave firmware version down the road to support newer devices and such? Anyone know? It would be nice if they did (much like Oppo Digital and their EOL DVD/Blu-ray players that they still support). Any info would be great.

Hi,

All Hardware will be supported for warranty and servicing.

Software will be supported from the point of NSP.
I.E. A major bug is found that stops the software from working then they will fix it.

I do not think there will be any updates in the near future.
I.E. No NSP 3.1.

Because Z-Wave is a open platform, new Z-Wave devices will be supported (without any updates) to a level.

As for the IR database, that will continue to grow as the Nevo has access to the entire UEI IR database via NSP and the online search option.

Nevo is not totally dead. It may appear again down the line but for now it is hibernating.

Hope this helps.

I guess I'm more confused now than I was a month ago.  After the flurry of speculation & angst about Nevo shuttering completely, the "Nevo Dead!" conversation stopped with "MattyMcfly" posting a statement from Nevo that appeared to re-assure dealers & distributors, while clarifying a few important changes.  The following, in particular, appears in conflict with the comment above:

While we are working diligently on a new strategy for this market, we have a few announcements that we would like to share with you as we begin a new calendar year.

First and foremost, we would like to re-iterate that we continue to sell and support our current line of Nevo Pro and Nevo Custom series hardware platforms, accessories and programming software applications

Sincerely,

Em Klaver
Vice President, Custom Installation

So was this erroneous?  Have things changed again in the past month?  While that statement did go on to say that the Q50 would be discontinued, your comment suggests something broader...i.e., "hibernation" of their entire product line.

If you can clarify any further, I'd really appreciate it. TIA.

hi chaps, i spoke to Nevo @ the ISE show a couple of weeks ago & they are going to continue support for the Q50 in terms of spare parts/firmware updates etc

They are also going to bring out 2 new models to replace the Q50 (hopefully later this year), they are going to be of a simular look & feel of the Q50 but with added WiFi features to match the S70
There is also talk of them bringing out a version of NSP for iPads/iPhones

Thanks for that update, MattyMcfly.

Can you elaborate at all on the new models? I'm curious, in particular, how it would be that TWO models replace the Q50?? I'm glad, though, to hear that they apparently aren't going to abandon the Q50's form factor, as I think lots of people still prefer a one-handed remote with that balance of hard buttons and touchscreen. There aren't many of that type left.

What I'd really love to see is a Q50-like remote that has a higher-resolution screen, better durability, and a user-serviceable battery. Maybe a couple models like that? With and without WiFi?? That'd be nice!

It's not an entirely academic question for me. I'm torn about whether to grab any of those Q50s I see on eBay, since new ones aren't likely to be available when my favorite remotes eventually fail down the line. But if there's essentially a "new Q50" in the pipeline, I'd be happy to wait and let these ones die a natural death. ;)

I'm not too sure on the full specs on the new models yet as have only seen images, they look very simular to the Q50 in terms of size etc,

the 2 new models are going to be called the G45 & the Q55, the Q55 will defo have Wi-Fi & also the addition of a nemeric keypad on the hard buttons.

There was also an announcement of a Nevo PS3 adaptor to convert ir to Bluetooth with a power on feature :) & also a new feature to control rs232 devices over ip

Kind of hope that the price point will be a bit more affordable for the new models.
