I am pleased to announce it is all a load of crap that has been taken out of context be CE Pro
They are simply selling through stock of the Q50 so that a new model can be released

I was starting to wonder, since nothing at all turned up on their website. This is great news if true! Can you cite a Nevo source for the info? It'd be nice to settle this once and for all.

(And....if the Q50 is being replaced, I really hope it's a similar unit with a better touchscreen! I love the Q50, but in this age of hi-res smartphones and tablets, the screen seems somewhat dated.)

There was an official statement sent out by Nevo yesterday to dealers & distributers. (see below)

No news on the new model as yet, but i would imagine it would be a similar design to previous models due to Nevo's philosophy that it should be a remote you can use with 1 hand rather than a tablet design

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for your continued support and loyalty over the past years. The Nevo team at Universal Electronics is proud of the many accomplishments we have brought to the market in delivering a new entertainment control experience with the line of Nevo Control Products.

At this juncture in our history, celebrating our 25th year of product and technology innovation, it makes sense to take stock of our accomplishments and evaluate new product opportunities and challenges.

As we begin 2011, the challenging market conditions and changing requirements of the Custom Installation channel require a re-assessment of our Nevo hardware platform offerings in order for us to continue to meet and exceed our customer’s needs.

While we are working diligently on a new strategy for this market, we have a few announcements that we would like to share with you as we begin a new calendar year.

First and foremost, we would like to re-iterate that we continue to sell and support our current line of Nevo Pro and Nevo Custom series hardware platforms, accessories and programming software applications.

For our International market activities, we will continue Nevo sales activities through the support of our existing exclusive distribution partner program.

For our North American activities, we will be streamlining our distribution by managing our Nevo sales activities through a select number of regional distributors, which will be announced in the near future.

Additionally, effective January 2011, the NevoQ50 Remote will no longer be available for sale in the North American market.

Thank you again for your continued support and commitment, we look forward to a great year with the confidence that we will continue to create sustainable value to our customers in the Custom Installation channel.

Sincerely,

Em Klaver
Vice President, Custom Installation

Well I have been a Nevo dealer for a few years now and have installed countless Q50 and S70's in systems and had great success with the programming, price point, ect.

Then one day the product Rep came in with the C2 and C3 remote information and talked them up like they were going to be great. The owner of the company ordered a batch and pre sold a few. Well anyone that has worked with these knows that the remotes are really pieces of garbage from the programming, through the performance, and on down to the reliability. Every one we installed with the exception of one we ended up replacing with URC pieces. The exception was one of our better customers that walked through the door one day and handed me the remote and the base station and said " Here. You guys have always been fantastic and I am not trying to step on anyone's toes but this thing is a real piece of shit. I am not asking for a refund or a replacement i just don't want this in my house any more."

So long story short we hammer it out between Nevo and the Rep firm that we need a credit on these pieces not replacements because we simply don't need constant service calls that these remotes are generating. We send the remotes out and get a delivery of 3 new c3's and rex bases. I called the rep firm and asked what is going on and he said Nevo stamped the RA with replacement only. I called Nevo left a voice mail stating the situation and I honestly would take any credit to purchase even bags of flashers or left over Q50's or S70's. I mean anything that I could actually use or sell.

We then get an email. Not a return phone call but an email letting us know that we have been terminated as Nevo dealers. So just a word of warning I would not expect them to honor or live up to any kind of deals or promises they make at this point.
One thing I have learned in this industry. It is easier to pull a wire than it is to push one.

If you need to "learn" how to use a Q50 or S70 then the programmer has done a bad job.

Why would you sell a remote that is hands down one of the best units around?

+1

Some of the best products I own and use are now discontinued. (Q50s control the TiVo S3s I use as tuners for my Kuro plasmas, for example....) I don't replace components with something "newer" when that something newer isn't as good.

I think a properly programmed Q50 is still...by far...the best remote around, and the easiest to use. As long as that's true, it's not obsolete.

Has anybody heard anything more on Nevo?

I've owned a URC MX-850 for the last few years and am in the market for a new remote with more functionality as I transition to a Z-wave automation system in my new home. Just became aware of the Nevo remotes as I searched for a replacement and thought they were perfect. One-handed operation, hard buttons for frequently used functions, customizable screens, and z-wave communication. Just when I thought I had found the perfect solution, I was disappointed to hear that they are cancelling the Q50 and there's some speculation about their complete demise (I haven't heard anything more than what's on this forum and that CEPro article). From my experience in the corporate world, you will be told everything is fine until nobody answers the phone anymore.

So at this point I'm sitting on the fence waiting to hear some more info. If they do indeed come out with a new model to replace the Q50, that would be good news and would be enough for me to take the plunge.

So if the Nevo folks are reading this, add one more customer to your list if you stick around. I agree with some on this forum that an ipad looks nice and would be fun to show off, but wouldn't make a very practical everyday remote.
