I have the B&K version of the MX 700 remote everytime I try to down load a file from this site it says I am using an older version and need to update and cannot download the file but the version it says I need is the version I am using.

You need to contact B&K about this.

Don't pay attention to the versions it says because it leaves off the last part. It will tell you you have 1.12 and need 1.12 but it may mean you have 1.12.100 and you need 1.12.224.

Do a live update and see if it works.

With my crippled MX850 software, I cannot import some MXDs from here.

WTF? I use the MX-850 software from 2 years ago with no live updates because the current version crashes constantly during FAVS programming.

If an .MXD file is created with a newer version of MX editor than you are using you will not be able to import it. I always used to keep a much older version of software around just to created mdx files that would be more compatible for everyone.
