I purchased my URC-300 two weeks ago and have it just the way I want it. I also had only seven devices and did not need page two of the main menu.
Although it takes a little extra effort the unused devices can be deleted or at least erased. In my case I wanted to delete all the remaining devices on page two. The following is required:
1. First arrange the devices the way you want them on page 1 of 2 by following emund's advice above.
2. Erase every learned key command on all pages for each device on the LCD that you do not want.
3. Erase the actual names of the keys on all pages on the LCD.
4. Hide all of the pages for the unused devices.
5. Finally, erase the name of the unused device on the main menu.
When you actually press the blank where the device was you will just get a black rectangle that does nothing. The next time you go to that page it will refresh and the space will be blank again.
The only faults that I found with this remote (and they are minor) are:
1. You cannot hide page 2 of 2 of the main menu even though there are no devices there.
2. If you blank out all of devices on page 2 of 2, as I described above, the remote will not allow you to add another device to page 2 of 2 if you later change your mind. You have to trick the remote first by unhiding a page at an empty device location and typing in any name for a key first. Then type in a device name so the remote will then allow you to add that device.
3. The black insert surrounding the select button is slightly smaller than the provided space. As a result it shifts slightly giving you a strange feeling when pressed. It needs a wedge to keep it in place.
4. Can't copy devices and keys to new locations easily.
5. Can't figure out how to get discrete on & off codes for my Sony Video Recorder w/Harddrive (Model # RDR-HX900).
There is no P-Pro code for it. There should be a code since the remote is newer than the device.
I actually was able to teach the remote the discrete on & off codes for my Sony DVD player, my Sony VCR, and my JVC VCR by using my old URC 7800 ONE FOR ALL Cinema 7 remote control. After all these years I discovered that the Cinema 7 could do more tricks that were not published in the manual.
