Who in the world makes up these names and why do people buy them. First Hisense now vivitek? I like my example generic TV name I use with clients "Funk and Wagnal".
It makes as much sense as Polaroid and Westinghouse, but these purely made up names are hilarious. Not belittling your purchase but what made you think something as expensive as a TV was a good purchase with the name vivitek? I guess you know now after finding no code that this company did not exist a couple of months ago.
BTW...who do you expect to repair it if it breaks?

You're in the wrong forum, btw. This is for URC's line of remote controls. Ask here: [Link: remotecentral.com]

I have read this 5 times and still cannot understand it. Is it English, Engrish, Ebonic, or what?

Edit: After viewing this video, I understand perfectly.

There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

What I don't understand is why new manufacturers don't either reuse an existing code-set or why they don't all get together and define a generic code set where the only difference is the manufacturer ID. If they'd done this 20 years ago, any remote in the world would be able to control anything. A series of codes in the set could be set aside for special functions.

It'd be nice to be able to set the sound field of my receiver with a $5 remote control, but there's no reason I shouldn't be able to turn it on/off, turn the volume up/down, toggle the inputs, and select a station.

Heck, the manufacturers could just have a menu where you could select which remote control codes to accept, so if you want your new Vivitec to look like a Sony you would just select Sony from the list. It could still accept Vivitec codes so their remote could still work the same.
