I just bought the URC-200 and love it so far! I've got it controlling everything except my TV which is a Hewlett-Packard LC3200N. There was an updated code table inserted into my user's guide but the HP code on it didn't work for my TV. I'd tried the Philips codes (suggested on the HP website) and that didn't work either. Two questions:

1. Is my only option to use the learning function? Or is there a website where the codes are continuously updated?

2. To select an input using my HP remote, I need to hit the "Input" button multiple times to scroll to the correct source (input 1 for DVD, input 3 for VCR, etc). If I want to set up macros, is there any way to automatically jump to input 3 or input 1 regardless of the current setting? I can't figure out a way on my HP remote (not mentioned in that user guide, either) so I'm not optimistic. But I figured I'd ask....

Thanks, in advance, for helping this newbie!

Tim

No the code list preset into the urc-200 will never be updated, its set in stone for the remote you already have. You can do a codesearch, if you don't get any hits, that there isn't any code available. Learning is your only answer.

As for question #2, what you're looking for is discrete codes. You'll need to tackle two hurdles: 1) finding discrete codes for your TV and 2) getting them into your remote.

If you do find the codes, one method that many folks use is to buy a cheap JP1-capable remote (such as a One-for-all or Radio Shack), get the discretes into it, then learn those codes into the URC. A good place to start down that path is here: [Link: hifi-remote.com]

Very cool. I took your advice, found a few HP discrete codes, and using ProntoEdit and one of the Pocket PC remote control programs, was able to use my Pocket PC to "teach" my URC-200 remote the correct command. I can't believe it actually worked!

One followup question....what is the best way to obtain discrete codes? I searched online, found codes for another HP tv, and a couple of them worked. But I'd really like to find the rest. After web searches, is the other option to email HP Support? How does someone go about finding discrete codes?

I haven't had much experience looking for discretes. Others here will be able to help you more. I do know there's a discrete code hunter forum on this site.

I have an LC3700N (same generation HP LCD TV as yours) and a URC-8910 remote, and like you would like to program some macros. I've found the files for the Pronto remote that I think you are referring to, but I don't have access to Pronto nor Pocket PC yet, so I haven't been able to try teaching my remote with those codes. Do the discrete codes in that file work for your TV? Which ones worked and were you able find any other ones elsewhere?

Thanks

timmer,

HP lcd's are actually made by Sharp so Sharp tv codes might work on your HP.

1) I just purchased the URC-300 and also have a pocket PC (iPaq HP 1945). I also have the same problem with discrete codes and I am very interested in the the program you used on your PPC(what model?) and more about the Pronto editor. Where can I get the Pronto editor and how did you use it.

My system has six devices and only my Yamaha HTR-5960 receiver has separate codes for on & off.

2) Your TV sounds like my Toshiba TV-one button sets the video input at either TV or video 1 or video 2 or video 3. I think edmund told me about a work around for the video input problem. In the macro you punch in any channel first so that the TV starts at the same position (TV position) as a base line. Then you enter the input button the number of times for the video input number you want. It worked for my Toshiba.

You can get the ProntoEdit program either in the file section here or from Philips

[Link: pronto.philips.com]
The later versions use .pcf files and the old version (I think 4.0) is needed to read .ccf files. I don't have PocketPC so I haven't tried them, but I would imagine the program Timmer referred to is either TV Remote Controller:

or Netremote

Actually, I found the discrete input codes for HP LCxx00N series (probably the same ones Timmer found), in the Pronto .pcf file for the TV in the file section here. I was a nice surprise to find them, since the remote that came with the TV itself didn't have buttons for them. I like the method you suggested, though. I'll have to remember that one for when I run in to that situation.
