I have a customer that called me on Friday and saw it online and wanted to upgrade his MX-900 purchase so we are, but have never worked with them or the software. Is there anything to look for?
Thanks..DH

I just started programming my TX-1000 a few minutes ago. I was worried about the weight, size, etc.
I am finding that it really is a cool remote.
The software is virtually identical. You'll program the remote in no time.
The only real difference is the style of remote, the button arrangement, and from what I can see right now, a slightly different user experience...... you can have 12 LCD buttons showing at one time, which works well for me.
I'm surprised at how much I like the TX-1000 being a long-time MX-850 user.
As far as working with the customer, just make sure that they know:
1) It is NOT a one-handed remote for the most part,
2) While it is somewhat designed to be a table-top remote, the shiny LCD glass does not allow you to see the screen from much of an angle (I suggest getting a PDA-like screen cover that reduces the glare...... don't worry about the sensitivity of the touch-screen....... it is VERY sensitive!)
3) It doesn't easily get lost or slip between the pillows on the couch.
4) It will probably be more susceptible to breakage if/when dropped, but I've dropped my MX-3000 a few times with no problems.
5) Possibly encourage them to get rechargeable AA NiMH batteries.
I'm not sure what else to say at this time, but I'm am pleasantly surprised at how much I liked the remote going from the MX-800, and I've also got a 900 programmed and have used it for a number of hours. I really don't like the button action beside the screen on the MX-900, but that is obviously a subjective thing.
I'm going to work with it a bit more tonight, and if I remember, I'll post some more of my thoughts.
If you have any more questions that you think of, post here. I may have more answers by then.

Oh yes, you can open your MX-900 file in the Universal Browser, which should make it much easier to move from the 900 to the 1000.

Oh yes, you are limited to FIVE characters for your LCD labels........ could be a deal breaker. I'm so used to the 5 characters on my MX-800 that it was easy for me to become accustomed to.
YMMV.

I have a customer that called me on Friday and saw it online and wanted to upgrade his MX-900 purchase Please be aware that the TX-1000 is not really an upgrade from the MX-900, it's just a different style of remote for different needs. Functionally, the two remotes are almost the same. If he's really interested in an upgrade in ability, you should look to an MX-950 or 3000. Mike www.SurfRemoteControl.com

Actually, the TX-1000 is limited to 6 characters on the LCD buttons not 5, the MX-900 is 7 characters.
I've been using a TX-1000 for several months and I love it. I always know where it is and the buttons are big enough to make it quite easy for everyone. The batteries last forever. It really is a great remote. And to think when I first saw it I thought "old person remote" but I now love it myself.

Ooops. You are right. 6 characters! I had just been looking at the "stock" labels, and they were never more than 5.
I agree about the "old person remote" thought until I actually tried it out.
And Mike is right. The 900 and 1000 are more like "sidegrades". Both of them will have limited variable support in the future. I think 2 or 3 variables, as opposed to 256, or something like that, on the 950 and 3000, but probably very helpful in certain situations.
Fingerprints on the touchscreen again would be somewhat alleviated with a PDA style screen protector.
I just sat listening to 5 CD's using the TX-1000 and adjusting my Marantz 8500 at the same time to compare sounds i.e. stereo, PLII Music, Neo 6 Music, etc. and it was a really nice and easy remote to use. A great experience.
I think MORE of these should be promoted!
Anyway, I like it!
On another note, I hope that the ability to disable pages on the 900 and 1000 will be available in the future, with a two-key button hold to open/close the extra pages for the person(s) in the family who know how to adjust the finer stuff on the HT equipment. I don't like that it is right out there "naked", so to speak, for anyone to accidentally play with.
Have a nice night people!

I have used one for about 2 months. Very easy to program. What's really nice is that the hard buttons have different shapes and a kind of human factored layout that allows the use of those buttons without looking. Also, since the screen is so large, those users that might need reading glasses don't need to use them. The backlight is very bright and the different backlight colors add a nice touch to the otherwise monochrome screen. I'm still using the original batteries and have about 50% life left as I use this remote a lot becouse of Tivo and the 30 second skip button! Joel

I just had a friend over who knows I have quite a few remotes, and she picked the TX-1000 out and said it was her favorite right off the bat!!! So, URC must have known what they were doing in making this one.
I think people might not realize that they might like this remote even though it is a larger remote.
