Can anyone , with any certainty, confirm or deny the validity of the OP's statement? This same assertion has been repeated over on AVS based upon the posters interpretation of a reply to an inquiry answered by Eric J. at URC,

A huge problem here, is that according to the Eric Johnson August 4th positng, the consumer download serial number verified link is "temporary" and for a "limited time." Tweeter, an authorized distributor, claims to not know anything about this new policy, has no software to give to customers and cannot supply a registration number. So if you buy one of these remotes say, from Tweeter (which still has them on their store shelves available for sale to us dimwitted DIYers), the best that you can hope for is that programming software will be "temporarily available" to you.

According to Eric Johnson's statement of URC's policy, if you lose or delete your programming software for any reason, you have no assurance that you will ever be able to get another copy -- updated or not. If, like me, you just bought a new MX900 from an authorized retailer, your access to the software is only for a "limited time."

Should I keep the MX900 for $481.49? I'm not that dumb. Back to Tweeter it goes.

I'll say it again: If these remotes aren't suitable for consumers, then why are they on consumer store shelves? Where's the software that URC says I can get from my dealer?

As rich_guy pointed out to me in another thread it is now here:

[Link: universalremote.com]

There is only one link to it from the professional main mage. No link from the site map (I would think it should be there as well). Yes they have made it difficult to find - why? I don't know - perhaps they want more support calls.
