I thought, essentially, that is what I said considering the OP's post and not Eric's or URC's stated stance. I realize a puported new policy stated by a CSR does not hold much credence but any port in a storm. LOL I don't have any problem with what you said because I agree with it. If URC decides to modify this idiotic policy, they should do so publicly. If URC has no intentions of doing so, they might want to ensure their CSRs are at least giving consistent advice regarding the policy. At this point, that may be expecting too much.

Thanks you.
Unless that is that short for a "class act"-ion lawsuit? I hope not!
Before I posted my ANSWERS thread, Eric Johnson and a couple of others had posted good information, and since then, he and Jeff Wagner have stepped in and given even more solid information.
I'm still looking for some more of the less definite answers, but have been tied up with important family matters here.
I gave myself a week from Monday, so I still hope to get those answers and hopefully everyone will know where they stand, where to get their software, and enjoy using their remotes.

The thing about all this that bothers me the most is,the fact that URC put this policy into play. If,in fact,URC does change the policy for those end users who have been left out in the cold. That would be the "right thing" to do.
I am still bothered by the fact, that their new change to the policy was prompted by all the complaints on this and other forums. How can I trust that URC may or may not change the policy down the road yet again?

Anyone have any updates to this possible change in URC policy?

I have a mx-700 and a mx-850. I went to URC's site today (aug 25) and registered both remotes and got the current downloads of the (same old) mx editor software. The 850 software does not have a live update button any more. The 700 software still does have a live update button, but when I push it, it tells me this software is no longer supported and I need to get a login password from my dealer to download the new software. Maybe they've already changed the 850 software to reflect their new position and not yet got the change to the 700 software. Anyway, I was able to download it. We'll see what happens with the next revision..... I still think it's a lousy way to treat your customer base. I'm tempted to throw these remotes away and switch to something else....

its my understanding that there will be no more updates for legacy products, 700/800. And the 850 is rapdly approaching this stage of the product life cycle.

This is not what I heard - I heard that there is a hex entry update just around the corner for all the software - something I've been waiting for. The pronto approach is cumbersome and buggy [I haven't tried the latest to see if the pronto entry bugs I am aware of have been fixed - will need to do that]. Have I been misinformed? Ron

Can't speak for what's available on URC download page, but all of the new editors still have "Live Update" and should have the hex editor (they do in beta). Some of the editors already have the hex editor. Mike www.SurfRemoteControl.com

The download page offers the software without the LiveUpdate feature.
Software with the LiveUpdate feature must be gotten from the original authorized dealer, or if that dealer no longer exists, then phone or email support at URC and they should take care of you as long as you have a serial number on your remote and can prove you bought from an authorized dealer.
If you bought it from a friend, used on eBay, classified ad, etc. then I believe it is on a per issue basis as to whether URC will provide you with registered software.
I am still going to get a fairly complete lists of ANSWERS from URC on these issues.

Sorry - I should have been clearer - when I said "all the software" I meant "all the software for the different remotes (mx700, mx800, mx850, etc.) available from the authorized dealers". I was not referring to the downloadable software from URC's site. Sorry for the confusion. Ron

I'm just annoyed at all the confusion and anger this has created.
So much mis-information / good information.. I bought from an authorized dealer (linked directly from URC's site) and have my remote.
Since I only open MX-Editor once every few months, having to reinstall it every time just because there's a new update would aggrivating.
I sent my dealer a second email and no luck yet. I wonder if I'll ever get the new unlocked software...

Daphoid, If you purchased from an Authorized Dealer and they gave you the current "unlocked" software, there is no need to reinstall when there are updates. You should simply have the Live Update feature, which would update your software, rather than reinstalling it from scratch.
