Henry, it stinks that you are caught in the middle on this one but I would be very careful opening emails you may get from this. It screams, send me a virus. You do not want things going from bad to worse. I already had a customer bittorrent an MX-900 editor only to have his system crash when he tried to install it. I am going over to his place tomorrow to reinstall the OS (xp home). He tried to install it on his system with XPpro and his AVGFree detected a virus. I do not know exactly why his system crashed but I am guessing it was rogue software. He said the file was called MX9000SETUP.EXE (one too many 0s in the filename). No one deserves to have to go through all of that.
If I remember some of your other posts you just got your remote? Can you not just return it to the unauthorized guys and buy from one of the AD like ProRemotes or Surf?

Have you tried the legal version on URC'S site. Honestly, I do this for a living and unless I needed the variables upgrade I would be fine forever with the 6-31-06 version. The reality is I do have 2 clients waiting on the update for variables. Just don't buy any Toads and you will be fine. Best of luck.

CCD - my unit has NO SERIAL NUMBER so I can not even d/l the current ver. Then, the concern is when I buy the next plasma tv or Yammaha amp - - do I wnat to learn all the codes manually?

NOT

Again - the timing of Universals policy change has screwed me. If it was a week earlier, I would have known to think about s/w.

Any help is appreciated

Henry - I wish you had checked out the last negative feedback inet received from me. I got taken by the same rip-off artist you did. Removed serial number and all. Try to get your money back from inet. I just hope you did not leave ++ feedback because they do not deserve it. Keep buggin them for the support he promised in their eBay auctions. They claim a 1-year warranty. Your remote does not work so they should make it right by you. Post a complaint to eBay about what happened. I had to buy another remote from an authorized dealer to get back working again

WOW! If you are in Florida, state statute would say you are in possession of stolen property. It is illegal to posess, sell or trade any merchandise with defaced altered or removed serial numbers. I cannot tell where you are from since your profile says USA. You may want to call your local PD and ask them about state law in your area. We had an incedent where a customer brought in a stolen car radio and we installed it not noticing the removed serial nimbers. It was a total mess costing us all sorts of time sorting out. Thank God the cops were understanding of our oversight in installing stolen stuff.
Besides I am telling you, The codes are the same for model after model.I used a Toshiba code from 3 years ago for a brand new TV today. Any missing IR codes will surely be right here at RC. The download website (I think) has an option for missing serial numbers. Edited for my bad typing:

I see the negatives you and Henry gave inetdistributor. Good job. He deserves that and much, much more. He claims his product is not refurb or B stock. No mention of no serial number though.
It makes no sense that URC can't shut this guy down. And Ebay should certainly give him the boot.

One thing that might crimp his style is pay with Paypal. When you get the remote with no serial number file a claim with Paypal. A few claims and Paypal might freeze his account for a while.

Henry, have you looked inside the battery compartment? This is where the serial number can be found.

Out of the many URC remotes I have bought, one was from inet and it does have the serial number attached. It is below the batteries (as in you must remove the batteries) on a white piece of paper/tape.

Looks like I have fallen into the inet trap on eBay. Too bad this info is not more prominent on the URC website. It was only after I found out that I couldn't download the software a search turned up this forum.

I paid with PayPal, so will eventually get my money back. Too bad, the MX-900 looked like a nice product.

The URC policy smacks of "price fixing", something that is usually illegal. They don't seem to be taking any action to keep their products out of the hands of unauthorized dealers. Unless these are counterfeit units (very unlikely) URC is complicit in this fraud.

I would think twice about buying anything from them.

Think three times! Just tell everyone you know, the remotes are orphans.

I bought from an installer that has since gone out of business.

Not URC's problem of course. No, no. It's just their new policy.

My policy is to spread the news far and wide about companies that have screwed me.

You know, many of the places that sell URC remotes online have space for customer reviews. I'm thinking of visiting them all and putting down my sad story about being abandoned by URC. Let people looking for remotes know.
