I know the OPPO does not have discrete power on and power off codes.

Has anyone been successful with an ingenious macro that will turn on and turn off the unit successfully no matter what state the DVD player is in (on or off)?

Thanks for the help,
Derek

I use varaibles, but that's only with the MX-950 or 3000. The usual workaround of Play-Stop and Play-Power doesn't work with the Oppo.

Not sure what a 'variable' is because I have the MX-600. I'm hoping someone has figured this out.

Do you see any problem with just leaving the OPPO on all the time, and never turning it off?

Put in on a switched outlet.

GOOD IDEA! Maybe I could just plug it into the switched outlet on my receiver since I do not have a nifty power center with switched outlets. Doing this would only leave the player on while I am using the receiver which is much better than leaving it on all the time. Not sure if there will be any memory issues for the player. I don't want to have to go through setup everytime I turn the unit on.

Variables are only available on the MX-950 and 3000. They allow you to simulate discretes. There's no way to do separate on/off commands directly with the player.

You shouldn't have to do a setup using a switched outlet, but it might not remember the location on an unfinished DVD.

Why shouldn't I have to do a setup using a switched outlet? What are my options with the MX-600. I am not worried about the it remembering the location fo an unfinished DVD. Thanks.

The Oppo should remain on whatever settings you input before you powered it down, even if it's not receiving any power in its "Off" state. The ones that I've sold have retained their settings after being unplugged. You have no other options with the MX-600 than to use the player with a switched outlet of some kind.

As I posted in another thread, try programming power twice in a row for your macro. That should be a reliable power off code.

Or you can just have the DVD turn on and off with your whole system. Same as if you TV had no discrete power commands. Turn it on with the system on, and turn it off with system off.

Yeah - two thumbs up for this one.
My problem solved this way.

As this message was quite short here's a copy of Jed's advice in the other thread

If you macro power twice in a row for the Oppo it will
work as a discrete off. If its on, the second power command
will be ignored while its saying "bye" but if the Oppo
is off the first power command will turn it on and the
second power command will turn it back off. Seems to
work reliably on all my Oppos. Good luck.
