I think that you would be very happy with the MX-3000.

I bought mine from an authorized dealer for les than $80 over Ebay price from (what appeared to be) reliable dealers. I felt the "security blanket" was worth the extra $.

I did the programming myself, with a little outside help -- needed because I could not at first find discrete power codes for one component. I eventually did find them right here on the Forum Files section -- in the Pronto files! Using the Editor software is really quite easy after just a little practise. Unless you have a super-complex system or some really odd situation, it just takes a little time and patience. I really enjoyed doing it.

I'm not knocking the Pros who do this work; I'm sure any one of them could have turned out a more elegant set-up, with fancier graphics (I used the Image Gallery graphics, plus some imported channel logos, battery GIF, and button graphics). But it works well, and I like the way it looks. And I had some fun and saved $300-350 (I consider my time to be free it was fun). After we use it longer, I may make some changes or just tweak it if the need arises.

I still have problems programming pronto I just never got it , But I felt like an expert at the mx3000 after a few days , graphic , variables , macros were really easy. I heard rti was an easier program but don't know cause I 'm not a dealer , don't think ill start because their touch screen which is out yet is going to be $2500
Ps sold pronto and they crash or lock up a lot and their rf has no routing ,4 ports and short range

If I attempt to program my future remote,
I have absolutely no problem paying someone if
I can’t solve the problem myself. However, I
have a hard time stomaching not allowing me the
opportunity to challenge myself within the “legal”
confines of manufacturer/dealer relationship (RTI,
Control4, et al). In my opinion, this industry
was founded on consumers’ demand for consolidation
and automation that AMX and Crestron (et al) originally
provided (and continues to provide).

Thanks to all at RC! The combined opinions, expertise,
and willingness to share your talents on this
website is a credit to your industry.

Laser, if you really like the RTI why not contact your local dealer and see if they are willing to sell you the product and software to program it. The mrf400 is a ways out still as of my last understanding it was still in pre beta due to software issues.

The MX3000 and MRF300 is a great setup for what it is. I think the MRF400 will bring it to the next level when it is available.
There's no worse feeling than that millisecond you're sure you are going to die after leaning your chair back a little too far.

Well Said laser2laser
I couldnt have put it any better.
I think the Pros do a great job but as you said some people prefer DIY.
I am an Automation engineer, more on the Industry side, so I am more than capable of programming remotes and hooking this stuff up. It does however piss me off when you cant buy the stuff because it has to be installed by the dealer. So what do I do, I dont buy it, I look at other products. I dont want to pay somebody to do something I can do and Enjoy doing.
The same as in my industry, suppliers shoot themselves in the foot because they put too many restrictions on there product, it becomes less well known etc. I often get called up to put things write where people have had a go and got it wrong. The more people that have the product the more this happens.

Regards
Mark
