I have a delema, I hope someone has a more efficient way of doing with the mx editor!
How can I copy an existing device (with it's pages) and have the editor change the alias and jump tabs command to the new device?
For example (sorry if this is wordy but I want to be clear!):
I have a cable1 device with a keypad page and transport page also a codes page. The tabs for the transport tab on the keypad page jumps to the cable1 transport page. Also
the 1 button will alias to the 1 button on the cable1 codes page. Now here's where all this gets tricky. When I copy the cable1 device and then rename it to cable2 (second cable box) the jumps and alias all refer to and execute back to cable1. to be clear, the transport tab on the keypad page (of the cable2 device) will not jump to the transport page of cable2, but goes to transport page cable1. Same deal with the 1 button of cable2 device, it refers to cable1's 1 button on the code set! I want to know if there is effcient way to make all of these jumps and alias automaticaly change to the new device? THus cable2 transport tab jumps to cable2 transport page and the 1 button looks at the cable2 codes page.
I Am trying to save alot of time so I don't have to change all these aliases and jumps for multiple copys of the cable device. I have 5 cable boxes, so if it can be done automatically it would save me lots of time.
Any help would be much appriciated.
Thanks,
Mike

I found a quick and dirty way to do it. There may be another way but this is the first thing I tried.

1. Click File>Export and select the cable1 device to export. Name it and export it.
2. Open a NEW 3000 remote file with no devices
3. Click File>Import and select the file you just exported.
4. Import the cable1 device into the new empty remote.
5. Rename it cable2 - Now all references change to cable2 because cable1 doesn't exist anymore
6. Export your cable2 device
7. Open your original remote with the cable1 device
8. Import the cable2 device

Now cable2 buttons alias cable2 and cable1 buttons alias cable1

What Ericjb just describes works, but has a lot of unnecessary steps.

With your remote configuration open:

1. Click File>Export and select Cable1 device to export. Name it and export it.
2. Click File>Import and select the same file you just exported, import Cable1 device.

Done.

3. (OPTIONAL) Rename the second cable1 to cable2 just for clarity, but all aliases are linked correctly either way. The actual commands are linked internally to the ID of the device not the name specifically, so you can have two devices named the same thing. The remote knows the difference its just difficult for the user to distinguish.

3B is correct, after exporting and reimporting the device can be renamed and all references point to the correctly named devices.

Without renaming one device everything works properly but would be confusing to program that way.

Simply copying and pasting a device does NOT work correctly.
