Silly question? Well, I'm not so sure. The remote for my Hunter Fan uses RF for lights and fan speed. The ONLY reason I would consider getting the MX-800 over the MX-700 is the ability to control the fan/light through an RF signal.

I thought I had read somewhere that this would not work as the MX-800 cannot "learn" RF.

Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dwaine

Because of licensing issues with the FCC there are no RF learning remotes. If RF is the only signal that your fan/lights receive than an MX-800 (or any other remote except the original) will not be able to control it.

Thank you. That sealed my "which remote to buy" dilema.

I have an MX-500, and really want to upgrade to the MX-700.

Thanks

The RF capable remotes still have significant merit, so don't count them out, just because they can't control an RF device. RF can increase system integrity during macros and also allow for more capabilities than an IR only remote.

Thank you,

I agree with Damon. Once you get used to using a remote with the flexibility of good RF capabilities you won't regret the extra $ you spent to get it. It is a great feature in almost every situation.

I have an IR fan and IR overhead lights - my MX-850 works great with these. Of course this doesn't specifically answer your question. :(
