Maybe somebody covered this, but i could not find any threads with an ultimate solution...but can somebody tell me the easiest/quickest way to create a graphic which will have a transparent background. For example, an NBC logo that I can put over a red button, blue button, textured button etc. and have the color or pattern show through?
I have tried creating .pcx files with Corel Photo Paint and it works fine, but apparantly telling the graphic which color to 'bleed through' is the hard part. Does anybody have a more elegant solution?

And the award for the dumbest mistake goes to THIS GUY :) Yup, that was the problem, .png files are actually very easy to make transparent (using Corel anyway) ... thanks!

Just a note that Photo-Paint has a significant bug working with transparent PNG files - where it insists on merging the foreground with a background color before saving, resulting in incorrect transparencies.

Keep in mind that while PNG files offer the only way to have a graduated transparency capable of displaying drop shadows etc. GIF files are perfectly capable of displaying most logos etc with a single color transparency. So if your proposed button graphic is a simple sharp shape, GIF is a good choice with lots of free shareware graphics progams available for download all over the net. GIF also allows you to animate buttons, which if done subtly, can give you a stunning set of logo buttons.
