I am thinking about purchasing the Lutron Maestro Dimmer to use with my mx-850 remote. I did a search in this forum and found several posts on this topic where folks had problem. It was unclear to me as to how exactly some of their problems were fixed.
1. Do any of the pre-program codes (77, 158, 159) work for this type of dimmer or does one have to learn from the remote? For $15 cheaper Home Depot has same IR dimmer without remote so if pre-program codes work I don't need the remote.

2. If anyone has this type of dimmer how many scenes can you set. The pre-program codes have 8 settings. I read that the spacer system has a total of 4 scenes

3. I saw that lots of folks had problem programing the silver/gray button. What exactly is the best way to program this button. I read one post stating to tap the gray button 3 to 5 times while holding down the learn button. Again I am not sure if this applys to the spacer system or all Lutron IR dimmers

4. What exactly is the function of the buttons MA-RA (bright) and MA-LO (dim)? I don't see an off or on button.

Thanks, BigDM

The situation with scene button (the silver button) is that you need to set the scene with the original remote, then press and hold the scene button on the universal remote while pointing at the dimmer, in order for it to register.

Damon,
If I understand correctly, I am to press the silver button to set the scene and then press and hold the button on the Mx-850 pointing it at the "dimmer switch" and not the original remote.
Should I also interpret your message to imply that the scene buttons in the pre-program codes do not work and that is why you are saying that I need the original remote.

Damon,
I had to wait on a part so I just installed the IR dimmers. I could not get your instructions to work. I was able to set one scene but not the other three. What I did was set the scene with the original remote, then select the scene button on the simulator, next I pressed the learn button, then I pointed the original remote towards the mx850 and pressed the scene button on the original remote until the signal was good. Am I limited to one scene setting with this particular dimmer (MIR-600)

Isn't it the Spacer "System" that has the 4 scene presets?

I know that with the original remote you can only set one scene with the dimmer I bought. I thought that since I am using the MX850 I can set multiple scenes by setting the dimmer a particular scene and storing it. If this is not the case then everything is working fine.
