I've narrowed it down to one of these two remotes based upon input from many on this forum. Although the 850 would be fine for my needs, I do like the cradle charger and tilt lighting features of the 950. Any additional thougths would be very helpful. Also, are there any new URC remotes coming out that I should consider??? Thank you....Kurt

They are both really good. The 950 looks a lot better than the 850, but they are both very functional. I have both of them and while the 950 has a lot higher "cool" factor, the 850 works well too. Either way you can't really go wrong.

950 has the ability to do variables that the 850 doesnt.

I like VERY much to FINALLY be able to use more than 5 text positions ofr a button label

Changeable backlight colors for different devises. Could help easy recognition of current device?

Has audio, though I havent played w it much yet.

Able to import BASIC logo/icons for devices
No, I wont install your plasma with an orange extension cord hanging down the wall.

The MX-950 is basically a hard button version of the MX-3000, so the remote's capabilities are virtually limitless.

If you would like a free consultation, you are welcome call me at: (914) 509-5360. We also have some great holiday specials and offer programming services.

Thank you,

Well, it's got many of the MX-3000's features, but there are some limitations relative to the 3000.

You have minimal graphics capability (not surprisingly) on the 950, sound files can be much larger on the MX-3000 and you don't have the spreadsheet macro programming of the MX-3000.

The 950's advantages over the 850 include the 255 device and page capability, as well as the much brighter backlighting of the screen. Also, you have both FF and chapter skip forward available on the AHEAD button and REW and chapter skip back on the BACK button. Having the skip functions on hard-labeled buttons is something that has long been lamented by PVR users.

As far as new models, there will be an MX-900 coming out after the first of the year that will fit inbetween the 850 and 950 both in price and capability.

If I remember correctly, the next remote to be released is the MX-900, but it is supposedly a good several months away.

I am a little disappointed in the 950 after liking the 850 so much. I use both, but more typically use the 850. The added memory of the 950 is very nice, but would suspect the 900 (after initial near MSRP sales) would be the better cost/benefit choice.

The problem that you'll have with the 900 is no variables, but I do like its button layout the best of any of the newer remotes.
