I would also recommend the MX-850/MRF-300 combination. It is a very nice remote and easy to program on a PC. A step up to the MX-950 is not necessary unless you want the additional programming features (such as variables).
The adjustable IR gains on the MRF-300 are worth the $100 over the cost of the MRF-250.
Note that the Harmony remote, now or soon available as RF, has cramped buttons, but is easier to program (though much less flexible).

I agree. The MX-850 and MRF-300 combination would be great for your purposes. The MRF-300 is generally easier to setup than the MRF-250. As Glack kindly mentioned, we do offer expert programming services as well. If you would like a free consulation or more information, you are welcome to call me at: (914) 509-5360, 10 AM - 9 PM EST. URC-200 with the expander. Best Price at B&H audio/video.
Not everyone needs to spend $600 on a remote.

Otherwise, look at an MX-800 or 850. A third option is to use an IR universal with an IR repeater system like a Hot Link Pro. Mike www.SurfRemoteControl.com

Mike,
Would you recommend the URC-300 (even thought I don't need RF) or the harmony 880...or perhaps something else for a moderate HT system (Elite pro 510, Elite DVD w/Tivo, Direct TV)? Sorry if this is off subject and thanks for your reply!!....Kurt

I generally recommend the Harmony over the non PC-programmable URC remotes because it can do more. However, a PC-programmable URC remote like the MX-700 can be purchased for less than the 880 and gives you much more flexibility in programming.

Mike,
Could you give me your thoughts on the difference between the MX-700, MX-850, and MX-950. I like the harmony, but feel the URC is a better product and want to make the right decision!! Thank you!

I'll give it a go --
MX-700: PC Programmable with serial port (or USB adapter, not included)
MX-850: Very similar to the 700 with wireless capability (with base station, not included)
MX-950: Very similar to the 850, but much cooler looking, rechargable battery and base station (included), colored lights for the screen, and PC Programmable with USB port
In general, the 700 is your best value in this group. Go for the 850 if you need wireless (your equipment is hidden). I'm afraid I don't know much about the harmany, though I've heard it is easier to get it programmed and working.
