Does anyone no where I can find discrete codes for the Panasonic TH-50PX50U and TH-42PX50U Plasma TVs? I checked in the "Discrete Hunter forum and did a search but can't seem to find any for these specific models.

Will some of the other model Plasma's work? I'm thinking of purchasing one of these but want to make sure I can get discretes for them before I pull the trigger. I don't want to purchase the set and then find out that I can't get at least the power on/off codes for it. I'm not to concerned about the other discretes but I am about the power on/off.

I will be using the MX-700 to control the Plasma.

Mitch -- I seem to recall seeing (on the Pany website????) that there were discrete codes for On/Off and Inputs. I wish I could be more help - but am confident that they do exist.

The Panasonics I have installed have worked two ways, depending on model. I guess you are talking inputs...discrete power can be easily found for current models. Slightly older models had discrete OFF but NOT discrete ON. (Really smart.) Here's the input deal...

1. Remote already has input 1, Input 2, etc on the remote. Just learn it.

2. TV takes a TV/Video plus numeric push to go straight to an input. Include in your macro "TV/Video + 1" to get to Video 1 input. (Just an example - I can't remember the numbers).

Flawless for me.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.

Thanks Tom!

Yes these are the newest models that I'm considering and yes I'm talking about inputs. But my biggest concern is discrete Power On and Discrete Power Off. You mentioned that discrete power on can be easily found for newer models.

Where? I've looked and can't seem to find the discrete power codes for the model I'm interested in (TH-50PX50U).

Perhaps power codes from other models will work with the newer models. Is that what you are suggesting? If so, which models should I try?

Thanks again for the help.

Lets see, where to start. I know that the TH-42PX50U has codes added to the MX800 database for programming from a computer. BUT (notice the big BUT), it appears to be incorrect for some of the functions!!!

On/Off work, channels, volumn, etc (the standard stuff), but the config menus do not work properly because the "menu" button and the "ok" button are wrong (basically "ok" is set to the menu code, and there are not codes for "ok" at all). This is really frustrating me because the remote to the TH-42PX50U that I picked up (was a return because of a scratch on the stand), was lost/not there.

Does ANYONE know what this code should be? I have not been able to find ANYPLACE that has it.

Thanks for the info. I'm not using the version 1.12.244 which has the codes for the new Panasonics because of the broken cut and paste issue. I guess that's why I couldnt find the codes.

I'm using the previous version which is 1.12.236 which doesn't list the new Pannys.

As far as your situation is concerned I would take your MX-800 into the place where you bought it or any Panasonic dealer that has your model and learn the codes you need from their remote to your MX-800. Kind of a hassel but it will get the job done.

If you decide to do that would you be so kind as to post your configuration file here on remote central so others can download it?

By the way... How do you like the TH-42PX50U?

Well, I like it to a point, but I know it is not calibrated correct which is driving me nuts :P

I can't really give a great write-up on it until it is calibrated really. I mean, I know the blacks are incorrect and the whites are blooming because it is in torch mode for the showroom demo in florescent lights...

I did do some adjusting from the DVD player side of things to see how it might start to look like, and I have to say it gets a nice picture. The HDMI connection seems to be the best quality connection on the set (I know in theory it should be, but many devices do a better job over component). I'm still putting it through its paces, but I think we will be keeping it, especially at the decent price we picked it up at for damage on a piece that we will probably never use (we will be wall mounting, so a scratch on the back of the stand means nothing to us). Saved $200 more then the cheapest place online, no sales tax, and I have 30 days to demo to decide as well. I mean, you can't ask much more then that.

There have been times where it really looks like I am looking thru a window at some of the content, it is really amazing.

Thanks for the suggestion on taking my MX800 to a store and learning the code there, I might just have to do that... Now I just need to find a store that has the remotes available to use :P

I hate to beat a dead horse, but has anyone confirmed that the MX discrete codes work for the latest 50 series plasma? I have a client who insists that we use a panny 50PX50U. I hate using product that I am not familiar with.

Greg,

Good question. I don't think it's been answered yet. The discrete codes are listed in the latest MX Editor 700/800/850 software version 1.12.244 but not in 1.12.236. However, that being said no one on this thread has positively identified whether or not the codes actually work or not.

They are delivering my 50PX50U this weekend so I will find out and let everyone know. In the meantime it would be nice if someone who already knows would chime in here and save us all some time before the installation takes place.

FallenK -- Try to get something working ASAP. Panasonic indicates that the first 100 hrs. or so are the most sensitive for burn-in, and they want the picture control (contrast) set to 50% or less for that time -- AND for the next 900 hours!!

Check out "Bruzzi's plasma faq" for more info.

the MX Editor software for the MX-700/800/850 has discrete power on/off that work just fine. The inputs however, don't work. But here is a work around at the bottom of this thread:

[Link: remotecentral.com]

I will try to test it this weekend and post my results but if someone else tries it first please post your findings here.

Sorry for getting a bit off topic here.

My current settings are:

Picture = +5
Brightness = +5
Tint = 0
Color = 0
Sharpness = +10

What are some good starting points? I have the "Sound and Vision" calibration DVD which I've use on the Panny and my previous Sony Wega non HD tube set.

The "Sound and Vision" DVD, which is based on ovation software, doesn't seem to have any effect on the Panny.

Is there better software out there for calibration? Should I have it professionally calibrated?
