I was looking for the discrete P-ON and P-OFF codes for the Pioneer 1014TX popular receiver, since for some reason beyond me, they are not included in the URC database. I am using a MX-700.

Someone helped me out in the Discrete Forums section and said that another Pioneer receiver VSX117 (code 078) has discrete codes that would work. So I added this new device and indeed they work great.

However I don't want to keep this new device on the remote but merely want to transfer these P-ON and P-OFF codes from the buttons associated with the VSX117 to those I created on my 1014TX device which has all the other settings perfect.

I tried created a macro on the 1014TX that linked back to the VSX117 and then deleting the VSX117 device, but as I suspected this did not work.

This sounds to me like quite a common problem, so what do people do? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Peter

If you can't find them from another useable source (Pronto or MXD file from this site), you can leave them on a page of an unused device, then delete all the other commands, hide the page and shortcut to it from you Pio device. You can also leanr all the other commands from the Pio remote to the device with the discretes. In the case of the 1014, there's a file in the MX-700/800 files section of this site that's a combination of learned and preprogrammed codes that you could try.

Thanks Mike - I know you can hide pages, but I thought that the device associated with the pages still would show up on the top level Main menu?

I tried the file that is on this site but I couldn't get it to work - see my posting (also from today) titled "A few basic MX-700 questions". I am not sure if the file is broken or I am doing something wrong (details in that other message)

regards

Peter

Yes, the device has to remain, but it could be on the second MAIN page and labeled or not.

Typically, I would use the discrete on/off commands and whatever other ones that work from the VSX117 file (it's likely that many of them will work). I would then delete the IR off the others and learn the remaining commands from the 1014 remote so I have what I want, where I want it.

Put the device that has the discrete codes on the 2nd page of 'main'.
Label it however you want(codes,PWR,etc.) Draw the codes from the device that has the discrete codes, shortcut or macro them to the device you want them on and hide the second main page.(if your only using the first 10 on the main page)

If you delete the device, the codes will be gone!(unless somebody else knows more than me! wich is quite likely!!)

Since universal browser supports .mxf files, create a remote with only this device that has the discrete codes, then save it. Next open your remote file that has all of your "good" devices on it and open the universal browser, open the mxf file that has the device with the discretes. Drag the discretes onto your good device that has the rest of your commands. Now you have your discretes on your existing device and can accomplish this with only one device for your receiver

Thanks everyone for the replies - looks like I'l hide my discrete power settings away somwhere. I like your method Eric, but dragging fom the universal browser only works I believed with learned data - not pre-programmed data. I also like Surf Remote's approach.. let me see - I have been at this thing almost 12 hours!

12 HOURS!

It can be frustrating learning a new 'program'!

Trust me on this;

Eric's suggestion is very good, but will only work if the discrete commands are learned. It will not work with preprogrammed commands. Just FYI.

Thank you,

For what it's worth, here's another option

One could use any learning remote to learn the preprogrammed discrete commands from the MX remote, then teach the buttons into the MX on the appropriate buttons.

On the rare occasions where I only have database discretes available, I do the learning through another remote, but not everyone has that luxury. If we can get the individual database command functionality of the MX-3000 editor added to the other MXEditors, this problem would cease to be one.

True, maybe once the 950 is released and that software is completed they could work on adding the 3000 database functionality to the Orion Editor.

I use a Pronto and have it attached to my laptop case so no matter where I go I have a whole database of discreets on me and I can teach them into any remote, any programmer willing to save grief should have a pronto on hand.
