Based mostly on reading these forums (they do influence butying behavior!) I went ahead and purchase a MX-700. Maybe you guys are hard core programmers and I am merely a lowly product manager for a software company, but... I am finding neither the manual nor the simulator that easy to use ;-) Maybe I am just not smart enough ;-)

A few quick questions, hopefully someone can help me out with
1) on the FAV, can I make the channel UP and DOWN hard buttons do anything? I would like to use the FAV for my favorite channels but give me the option of channel surfing from there also. Make sense?

2) When I use an external ccf file to cause a hard button to learn a command - e.g. the hard STOP button, and I want to unlearn this, how do I do this? For example I make a mistake in button assignment. The only option I can see is to use the "Learn" option for that button from the Program menu (option #4) - and then what? I don't want the button to do anything.

3) Finally (thanks for reading this far), I would like to input the discrete power on/off codes for the widely popular Pioneer 1014TX receiver. I have a file that someone uploaded which contains these supposedly - as an mxd file. So following instructions I read here and elsewhere, I do the following :-
--> I right click on MX-700 from the simulator and select "Import Device" - the file VSX-1014TX.mxd shows up fine.
--> I open the file and am now in a sub window called "Available Devices" with the left hand box having the text "AUDIO" in it (presumably the device name from the mxd file)
--> I select AUDIO and then the ">" key to move it to the main page - however then another subwindow opens up which is called "Device Assign" which has a box with 5 devices called "Used External Devices" and a drop-down for "Assign Device to" with an OK button.
--> There is no combination of inputs that I can make from this "Device Assign" screen that will allow me to select the OK button.

Anyone know what is going on and what I can go to fix it? Is it possible that the mxd file is broken?

Thanks for helping me out!

Peter

Just found out the answer to #2 myself.. very obvious when you know how - you hit the delete key on your keyboard after you select the button and you are given a choice of deleting the IR Code and Learned Data.

I am leaving original post in case others run into this issue

1. When you're in FAV, the hard buttons will operate the last device you were in, so if you came there from your channel controling device (sat, cable etc.) they will work. You can also program rhe MAIN page hard buttons separately by punching through and shortcutting to other devices.

3. Regarding the mxd file, I didn't have any problems importing it. The "OK" was available no matter what I chose. What version of MXEditor are you using?

Thansk Mike for the replies

I ended up using FAV not for channels but for generic sound and picture settings plus to store all the power commands for the components. I put all the TV channels in my TV component.

I have both OTA (antenna) and cable with an infrared A-B box, so the left hand side channels are all OTA and the right ones are cable. I get 19 of each over 4 pages which should be enough ;-)

I am using the latest software BTW.

regards

Peter
