I have a brand new DirecTV H-10 receiver and an equally new MX-600 that I purchased to control my HT. So far I can get the MX-600 to control my Panasonic Plasma Monitor, the HT Receiver, and the DVD player. BUT I CAN'T FIND A WAY TO CONTROL THE DIRECTV H-10.
Is there a set-up code for that the H-10 (I believe it is made by Samsung)? I've read some posts that talk about "learning." Is that something I may need to do? How do I do it?
I will really appreciate your help. I am a complete newbie who is totally lost. Most of the technical jargon is foreign to me so far.
Thanks again for any help you can provide me.
Daniel

Yes, you're going to need to learn each and every command from the H-10 remote, because the mx-600 doesn't have a code. To learn, with remotes head to head
1. press MAIN and ENT 2. press LEARN 3. pick the device 4. pick a key to learn to,and release 5. now press and hold the key on the donor remote until you get a confirmation 6. repeat for all the other commands.

Read the manual on learning. I've not used a 600 but on the others you hold main or main + ent down to get into the setup page. Learning mode is when you tell the remote which button to learn and then aim the original at it with the same key.
That's not too coherent at this hour but you do need to do some reading.

Edmund, thanks for your reply. I feared that would be the answer. Last night I kept trying to make the remote work by "learning" a few functions from the H-10 original remote.
This is what I did. 1. Re-labeled the functions on the MX-600 SAT menu to read similarly to the H-10 remote (I probably re-labeled 8 functions) 2. Followed the manual instructions to make the MX-600 learn. After each learning step the MX-600 showed "GOOD".
The frustrating part is that I tried the functions I programmed and only one of them worked.
If you have any other suggestions please let me know. If by chance I messed up by re-labeling the original menu, is there a way to reset and go back to factory settings?
Thanks again
Daniel

I've only programmed that model into one project so far, and it was a Sonance in-wall keypad. The learning process worked.
Retry your learning by varying the distance between remotes. Sometimes, tapping the H-10 buttons will aid in learning. Keep experimenting.
I have had remotes that refused to learn. So I carry a few different ones with me...an Integra learning remote has saved me many a time. For some reason, it almost flawlessly learns difficult codes. Once learned there, they can be transferred to the one that moments ago refused the direct feed from the original remote.
If your a/v receiver has a learning remote, try using it as an intermediate link as above.

I've successfully used code SAT 173 for my H10 box. I don't know if the code is in the remote you have or not, but it's availble.
As an alternative solution, URC can upgrade your remote with the latest codes if you send it to them. You can reach them at: (914) 835-4484.

Code 173 is in the mx-650, but not the mx-600. Other things to try, make sure you have fresh batteries in both remotes.
Nothing special to learn to Channel keys.
1. press main and ent 2. press learn 3. press SAT device 4. press CH UP,and release 5. while pointing remotes towards each other press and hold CH UP on H10 remote 6. main 7. main

Thank you Edmund, Tom, and Damon. Your suggestions and tips are very useful. I will try them as soon as I can get back home.
I am sure you go through this type of questioning often. I got my remote yesterday, oblivious of the realities and limitations of an "all-in-one" solution. After skipping lines, paragraphs, even sections I went ahead and tried to make it all work. The TV and audio parts worked almost out of the bos. But, the H-10 is proving to be the vane of the short-lived MX-600 existance in my home.
I hope you will not mind it, but I will surely come back here with more questions.

Don't consider your remote to be a limitation. You will be very happy with it.
Liberation might be a better word!
