It just arrived about 1/2 hour ago from an eTailer! I loaded my unmodified MX-700 program into it (using the MX-850 editor) and the first time I touched the OFF button it locked up in transmit mode (the little transmission icon in the upper-right hand part of the LCD screen remains on). So I did some searching in the MX-850 program and discovered found that option 9 under Programs is RF control. Since I have no need for RF control, I set all devices for IR only, downloaded the program again, but the first button that I touched that transmitted a signal locked up the remote.

Is there something defective with this unit or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks, Bill

Try creating and downloading a new MXF file with just one of your devices taken from the IR database. If that works okay, there may be something corrupted in your MX-700 file.

Hi Mike,

I made a new MXF file using just the codes from the IR database for my TV . . . it worked like a champ! So I guess you're right, the problem is some incompatibility in my MX-700 MXF file. I guess what I'll do is export the devices one at a time from the MX-700 to the MX-850 and test each one before going on. Hopefully this will either isolate the problem OR create a new MXF for me that is the same as my old 700 commands, but without the fubar!

Thanks for the help,
Bill

Well I exported 2 different devices from my MX-700 to the MX-850, and BOTH caused the MX-850 to lock up. I guess I have to reprogram the 850 from scratch, what a pain in the . . . neck!

Before you create a new file, make sure you also have the latest version of MXEditor by doing a "Live Update". Some previous versions had problems with old MX-700 files.

I had already done a live update and am now using version 1.12.235 which I guess is the latest. Now I'm trying to simply learn codes from the MX-700 to the MX-850 but any and all learned codes from the 700 are causing the 850 to lock up. I guess I'll try to learn some codes from other remotes and see what happens. This is getting frustrating! :(

Later . . . I've established that ALL learned commands are locking up the remote, whether they are learned from another remote or part of an MXD file that was exported from my MX-700.

Thanks to EridJB who sent me a PM, the problem is solved. It seems that version 1.12.235 of the MX-850 is bad! I downloaded a non-beta version recommended by Eric, then ran Live Update which gave me version 1.12.236(beta), and this version works fine (but why is URC putting a beta version on their site for public use??)! I was then able to open my old MX-700 file with the MX-850 editor, save it as an MX-850 file, DL it to the new MX-850, then do a couple of tests with no lockups!

What I don't understand is why nobody else has been bitten by this bug (or why someone who DID have the problem didn't say anything)? FWIW, I went through this "bad software" problem a couple of months ago with the MX-700, but URC finally got their act together and put a clean version out there. I can't believe I'm now going through the same problem with my new remote!!

Actually, the version I wanted to see you download should have given you the current release of 1.12.231 which is a final release and would have also solved the problem.

The software you are using is beta, that is not fully tested. If you want to always have a good version, install the non-beta version and use that one as it is fully tested before it is released. Don't be frustrated, use the non-beta version.

Thanks Eric. I was just about to say that 1.12.231 should work fine.

I'm using 1.12.231 and I can get thru programming each project, but every download has its failures. I'd say out of 6 downloads, I have to pull the batteries and reboot 2 or 3 times.

Halfway thru the download the error pops up, "LimitedProgramLoadtoRC(LPLTR-2)". When I close that down, the next download is usually accompanied by error 110-17UU-0001, not communicating with the remote. Pulling a battery and starting again finally gets me to 100%.

I've probably had that happen on the last 6 remotes since I downloaded .231. I think the one I had before was one of the buggy ones that killed everyone else and worked for me. Can't figure it out.

Tom,

You may want to try to load an empty program to the remote when you get a message like that. Sometimes it doesn't completely overwrite/erase previous programming. It doesn't happen often, but I've found this technique to help too.

Thank you,

I'd happily use the non-beta version, but the Live Update delivered 1.12.236(beta). How do I find a non-beta version?

Thanks for your help Eric!

It should be available right on the URC web site at: [Link: universalremote.com]

If you still have the same problem, call URC and let them know. You can reach them at: (914) 835-4484.

The version on that page is shown as 1.12.235(b)! FWIW, I downloaded that version last night and it was a beta version - just as advertised. I'd rather use a debugged version!

Try version 1.12.228 available in the "Files" section of this website here.

URC is aware of this and they are taking care of it. A release version of the MX-850 Editor should be onine shortly.
