I just bought an MX-850 and I have a couple of questions.

First, the Standby button with the built in codes for Infocus X1 projector does not do anything. Should it work to turn the projector off or do I need a discrete power off code. If I need a discrete code, does anyone know where I can get one? Power off is all I need.

Second, can I extend one of the stick on IR flashers to about 50 feet? And if so, what is the best way to do that. I thought about using CAT5 cable.

Thanks in advance.

If it's like the 4805 codes, the Stndby button is a discrete "On" command. There is no discrete "Off" command. The "Power" command is an On/Off toggle.

CAT5 cable should work fine, but 50' might be a little too much for the flashers output. It depends on the sensitivity of the IR receiver. If you're thinking of doing this for the X1, you can also just bounce the IR off the screen.

I haven't tried the codes on the X-1. Did you try pushing 'standby'' twice.
You may have to 'learn' it from the Infocus remote if doesn't work.

Technically, you're supposed to use 18/2 to extend emitter wires.

But, I've used cat 5 for a loooong time before I found out. (I still use cat 5)
For 50' it might be a good idea to use two pairs, just to be safe.

Enjoy your 850. This thing ROCKS!!

Thanks alot guys. I think I'll go ahead and run CAT5 and use two pairs if needed. As for the discrete code, I thought about using an X10 power outlet and turning the outlet on and off instead. I could even turn off the projector normally, then after the 1 minute cool down time, use a macro to shut off the outlet. Any opinions on this?

Theoreticly, that sounds ok.

I have a problem with 'killing' the power on a projector.

Make for dang sure that it is cooled down in the amount of time before you loose power!

Bulbs are expensive!!! And heat kills them!

An associate (and good friend) of mine has already called Infocus on this issue, they state that it is absolutely FINE to kill power to this projector in order to turn it off (he's doing it with a Niles AC-3 switched outlet). After a year, no problems so far.

I don't know if this has been stated yet, but POWER once will turn it on and POWER twice will turn it off. Since it's not technically discrete, if you flash the POWER once while it's already on, the screen will blank for a few seconds, but otherwise the projector will not go off until it receives two POWER commands back to back. I have had no luck finding any other discretes, from URC, Crestron, Pronto or 'other'.

pilgram,

You suggested using 18/2 for extending emitter wires. Do those need to be shielded or could I use 18/2 thermostat wire?

It doesn't have to be shielded for emitters.
If the reciever needs to be extended, use shielded.

pilgram,

Forgive my ignorance, but what do you mean about extending the receiver?

OOPS!
I was thinking IR extender kits that have an IR reciever and emitters.
Please delete that ! :-)

Ok, I thought I was losing my mind!

One more thing I forgot to mention. The emitter wires will be running very close to electrical wiring. Will this cause any problems?

Nope, I think i'm loosing mine!
I've never had any problems with electrical interference on emitter wires before but, every day is a new day!
