I have a Panasonic DVD S97 player and a Panasonic ES10 DVD recorder. I am using (which may be a mistake) the IR data base for the ES95 recorder.

Here is my problem. Both DVD player and recorder power up with the same command. By using the original recorder remote, I can reset the recorder to "read" code 2 so that I can power up the recorder without turning on the DVD player at the same time.
When I try to set the MX-700 to the code 2 it does work.

What am I doing wrong and is there someway around this? Do I need decrete codes for the ES10 recorder?

I would love to be able to record DVDs using just my MX-700 instead of holding two remotes in my hand at the same time.

If you use the original remotes that came with the Panasonic DVDs, do those also control both of them?

Sometimes manufacturers reuse codes and commands, which can result in something like this happening. It may simply be because of the codes Panasonic uses, not anything to do with how you set up the MX-700. Test with the original remotes, as I mentioned above and let me know what the result is.

Thank you,

Yes, I can use either remote for the player and/or recorder to power up and power down both units.

In the setup menu of the recorder it give me the option of setting the remote to either "code 1", "code 2", or "code 3". If I leave the recorder set to "code 1" the MX-700 will control the recorder. However at power up both units will start up. If I set the recorder to "code 2", the recorder remote will operate the recorder seperately without starting up the player. This is what I want. However the MX700 does not operate the recorder when the recorder is set at "code 2".

I need someway to tell the MX-700 to command the recorder when the recorder is set at "code 2". I have tried "learning" the codes etc. to no avail.

I would recommend contacting URC and ask if they can create that code for you. You can reach them at: (914) 835-4484.

If they can't create that code, then your second best recourse is an MX-850 w/MRF-250 or MRF-300, but they should be able to create it. The only reason I'm suggesting the MX-850 w/MRF is that each of the MRF's flashers are addressable, so you can isolate the IR to each component.
