I just acquired an MX-850 remote and have been informed by my colleagues that this will not control my RCA VH920 switcher because the RCA requires a 2sec pulse of which the MX is incapable.
My ten-year-old Technics receiver remote can control this thing fine (the RCA can be used with either factory codes or using a learning feature from other remotes).
Anyone have any ideas/experience with this?

Try calling URC and ask them if they can create a code that will perform as you need it. I think preprogrammed codes should be able to functions just as the original remote, but they can verify that. You can reach them at: (914) 835-4484.

Thank you,
