I am a newby to the MX 3000 and would appreciate it if someone could tell me step by step, exactly how to import and use a different background. The default ones are tasteless and boring and I would like to use some of Daniel McKenzies backgrounds until I get a few of my own to use. Any help would be greatly appreciated and make my first MX 3000 experience go smoother than it has for the last hour or so of searching and playing. Thanks in advance.

The background image is actually just a big button on the MX3000. If you want to change the background you can click on th existing one and in the lower right corner you will see button properties.

There is a section on the left for the inactive state and the right is for active. If you click on the down arrow, it will have you search for a replacement image. It has to be 320 by 240 pixels. JPEG is best for backgrounds because they take up the least amount of space.

A second problem will arise, you will see the rectangular edges of the bland grey buttons from the default GUI. If you are graphically inclined you can do some nice alpha tranparencies with png files but you will need a good graphics editor like Photoshop or Paint Shop to produce them.

Take it from me, it took me months to come up with a fully customizable design. The software does have other themes included you can use. None of them seem to have enough buttons on a single page though. I packed everything in very tight so I could have a 0-9 keypad, transports for DVR and 8 more assignable buttons, plus a battery meter, clock, and a device header with two more shortcuts at the top. The system on and off buttons got moved to the main page only.

In the files area on this site, there are a few you can download to check out.
